Anyone else here seen "The Motorcycle Diaries"?
What a great film, a great story (a true story about Che Guevara & his friend who toured South AMerican on this crappy motorcycle) and a visually stunning movie

Oh, and Gael Garcia Bernal - what a hottie!! And a very talented actor to boot!!

2. I saw it with a friend who knows the history of Che Guevara very well.
He is very critical of over-romanticizing historic figures, but he enjoyed this movie very much. Also, after the movie, I got a complete history lesson about Che and Fidel, the CIA, et cetera, et cetera.

Sound track for the movie is great, too :)

3. I never realized that Che and I have the same birthday
His Birth Certificate is actually incorrect since it seemed he came a little too quickly after his parents marriage. His actual birthday is May 14th - just like me!!

6. Hey, that's my birthday too
and my nephews.:toast:

I thought this movie was pretty good. Just saw it a few weeks ago. I don't know why but I thought it was in english. Usually I prefer a movie in it's original language but for some reason, in this case it affected my ability to follow it a little. Unfortunately the DVD I rented did not have a dubbed version.

I don't know much about the man either.

I guess it seemed a little obscure sometimes, where they were and what was going on (like the scene where the married woman comes on to him on the dance floor and then denounces him and they have to run away). I was tired too so that may have been part of it.

I liked how his buddy kept calling him, Fuser.

7. I have no idea what Fuser means

17. It was a nickname from the way he played "rugby"
I actually thought in the movie they were playing soccer which seems more likely.

This is from Wikipedia which was the only site I could find a reference for that explained it in any way that I could get to:

Short for "Furibundo Serna" (Furious Serna), due to his prowess on the rugby field.

4. I truly enjoyed Motorcycle diaries.
One thing with it, you see Che, and you start to really feel with him, you feel all the good that he wants to do for the people of south america.. and then at the end you realize the CIA killed him.. someone who wanted to help..

also. that Chipa Chipa song sure sticks in your head

5. Good movie. Very thoughtful and subtle.
In this movie, you see the seeds being sown that would prompt the transformation in Che's thinking.

But it isn't a melodramatic story that starts out with Che the upper class medical student, and ends with Che the hard boiled revolutionary.

11. Not yet.
Good information on Che in the recent Irish Echo. With the movie creating a renewed interest in Che, more people are "discovering" that he was part Irish.

12. I disagree. I thought it was too snippet, too sparse and didn't delve deep
enough into the character to explain his plunge into communism and socialist ways.

He only met one family who were self-identified communists, and even that scene was too gratuitous.

I did however, appreciate the endeavor and the adventure. The actors were engaging, and the story seemed very genuine, if not a wee bit too shallow in explaining to me the origins of a man who had such an enormous impact on history.

I would have appreciated more complexity, but I understand the need to keep it simple in order to perhaps open the minds of the closed.

18. I haven't seen it yet but I've read the book.
It IS a snippet, showing the awakening of his political feelings. He didn't "plunge" until a bit later.

Several fine biographies of Che Guevara have come out in recent years. Look for books written by Jon Anderson, Jorge Castaneda & Paco Ignacio Taibo II. They've got plenty of complexity, from different perspectives.
