The DU Prom: Who's your date and what will you be wearing?

I'll be accompanied by my partner. He'll have on a tasteful black tuxedo with a bow tie you can actually tie yourself, which he will discard half-way through the evening. I will be wearing a royal blue velet off-the shoulder knee-length dress with a white orchid corsage on my wrist. My hair will be in a French twist up-do which will also be discarded half-way through the evening as I get resolutely and increasingly drunk.

See, I married my H.S. sweetie, who is from a conservative evangelical family. NO DANCING! None.

I had a BF in h.s. but no prom date because his parents swore he would not be allowed into his Christian college if they found out.

And no dancing at our wedding either, as they threatened to not come if we had dancing or drinking. (And since his dad was the minister, they really needed to be there.)

Long story somewhat shorter, we never dance now either. He does not fell comfortable trying to move me around the floor, and I don't dance any better than when I first learned the fox trot from my dad during jr high.

Sorry about the in-laws! I would have found another minister. MOBODY was telling me I couldn't have alcohol at my own wedding.

Our niece in Alberta will probably be getting married next year, and is dealing with that same issue right now- a future father-in-law who insists on no alcohol at the wedding (reprehensor's family is Metis! Like THAT'S going to happen!)

Real bow-tie (I'm allergic to pre-tied ones), tastefully understated shirt-studs and cuff-links, white gloves, white silk scarf. But if somebody asks very sweetly I may go for kilt and Bonnie Prince Charlie.

I have no date as yet ( :cry: ) and so will likely spend my entire time at the bar (I do hope there will be a bar, otherwise I'm bringing my hip-flask) oggling the gorgeous men of D.U. whilst I make witty and fascinating conversation.
