Man I love it when these owners of BIG SUVs bitch about the gas price!!
I mean, we all have the right to bitch since I'm thinking the gas price is going to hit $2.50 by summer. But there is a certain satisfaction when I hear someone bitch about paying $50-60 a week to fill up their Behometh Beastmaster Gargantuan SUV (Hummers, Expeiditions you know the SUV gas-guzzling culprits!!!)

Me, I put about $20 worth of gas in every other week. Of course I live 2 miles from work, but it helps to have a Toyota Corolla that conservatively uses gas! I'd get myself a hybrid, but my Corolla is only a few years old and has low miles (and is paid off to boot).

So to all of these idiots that drive Behometh Beastmaster Gargantuan SUV:

(BTW, this is not towards all SUV drivers or for those of you who have legitimate reasons to own SUVs because you live in a state that has snow 11 months out of the year. But in the state of Delaware there is absolutely no reason to own these monster vehicles other than extreme love of George W. Bush or a small penis)

1. I just bought a Civic Hybrid ...
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 10:49 AM by Drifter
at the end of January. I love it. I am thankful that my other car (91 Mazda 626) died when it did.

I hate that gas prices are going up, but I'm glad that it will not effect me as much.

Cheers
Drifter

2. How's that thing running?
I was thinking of getting a Toyota Prius or waiting to see if they have the Hybrid Rav4 (their small SUV). But right now I can't justify going into car debt when my car runs fine and has many years of life left in it

11. It runs great ...
operating it is no different than a traditional gas only vehicle.

I am getting about 38 MPG in cold weather. I expect to see up 45 when the weater gets nicer (IF THE WEATHER EVER GETS NICER).

We are a 2 car family (car + mini van). My wife was not comfortable driving my old car (manual transmission). My old car got between 25-30 MPG, and the van gets about 20 MPG. Nearly 75% of our household miles are driven by my wife.

With the Hybrid (Automatic Transmission), we are able to leave the van idle much more. We only use the van if we need to carry a load, or if both cars need to be out.

Hybrids make a GREAT compliment to a mini van, in a 2 car family.

Cheers
Drifter

17. I just bought a Honda Civic Hybrid too!!
Bought it this past week. And I am already spoiled by the car. I have a long commute to work so I factored that I would be saving $207 a month in gas. My first 'new' car and my first car to have payments on but I think it will be worth it.

The car I sold was a SUV.

I love how you can see at the moment how many Miles Per Gallon you are getting. I think if every one had a car like this or tacometer like this then people would be more concious of how their driving habits affect the kind of mileage they get on their vehicle.

23. We've got a Civic Hybrid and an Insight
Some of the best purchases we've ever made.

I love it when I'm gassing up the Insight next to someone with a Ford F350 or Suburban. I can't wait until I get to gas up next to an H2. I'm gonna bring a camera around with me to I can take a pic! It's bound to happen sometimes soon.

4. Sticker spotted on local gas pumps
I keep seeing this sticker on gas pumps, stuck right next to the price:

"Thanks a pantload, George W. Bush.
You and the oil-corporate Republicans
are responsible for these high prices."

5. I drive a 15 year old Geo Prizm
(Toyota Corolla and Chevy joint venture). I am surrounded by SUVs out here in CA. I passed one gas station yesterday selling regular unleaded for $2.69. I believe it will pass $3.00/gallon here very soon.

6. I work in an office of conservatives
And some of them were bemoaning the high gas prices (and in Oklahoma, we have some of the nation's lowest at $2.15). One of them said something like, "No one could have predicted gas would be over $2.00 a gallon." I said, "Excuse me, I did, and I have email from back then to back it up. What do you expect when two rich oil men who never worked a day in their lives are made president and vice-president? You think they actually care about your having to pay high prices for gas?"

That shut them up.

12. Good for you
It's time we start reminding them that we were right and they were wrong. Loved it when Greenspam said at the Senate hearing that we all thought the economy was good and Hilary said wait a minute it wasn't all of us who said that. They have been wrong about everything and we have been right and people should know that.

19. I call it the Ford Excessive.
My office manager complained about gas prices. She drives...wait for it...an SUV. I think she voted for *. However, she seems to be changing her mind about * and the Republicans here lately.

We have a Corolla (love it) and a vintage, bright blue (and rust)1978 Datsun pickup for trips to the recycling place and as a back-up vehicle.

I drive a 1993 Dodage Dakota 4WD pickup truck with manual transmission. It gets OK mileage but not great. I do need it to haul hay, feed and supplies for my horse and the 21 others that I take care of each day.

8. Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, but not buy a more-efficient vehicle.
Isn't that the American Way?

Build a 6,000 square foot McMansion with central air that you keep at 62 degrees, and bitch about electricity bills. And property taxes.

Bitch about traffic on the roads, but make a special trip at the drop of a hat to go get a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

Eat fresh vegetables in the winter and bitch about illegal immigrants.

Bitch about people talking on the cell phone while they're driving, on your cell phone, while you're driving.

Bitch about $2.50 per gallon gasoline, while drinking $9.00 per gallon bottled water, from a bottle that took hydrocarbon materials and oil-generated electricity to make.

After all, it's 'the American way'!

Bitching is easier than changing, and after all, we're all entitled to feel no discomfort, ever, right? :eyes:

10. I drive a '98 Camry and it gets good gas mileage for a mid-size sedan
I filled up this morning and it was $28, and the gas light was coming on. Those big honking SUVs will be paying $80-$100/week in no time!

13. I make sure to pass 'em...
...in my new Prius, and I chortle as I go. At least the ones with the W stickers.

It's a finite resource, dips--ts. Your little hedge against male menopause is about to get even more expensive, even as your company considers laying you off in the Bush economy you voted for. You're about to discover that you can't eat leather upholstery, and that you are not one of the millionaires your party loves.

(I, too, must admit that there are families for which an SUV makes a kind of sense, but good god, are there no cars with mileage in the thirties and good saftey features?)

16. Actually, what they're going to find is no one wants to buy their SUVs
With the gas prices getting outrageous, the market is going to be flooded with these Behometh SUVs and the prices are going to go downdowndown. Because who in their right mind would want to buy a vehicle that will knowingly cost them several hundred dollars a month to run

24. You know the irony of all of this
The people that own these gas guzzling SUVs are the same exact ones that voted for Bush.

The progressives I know who own SUVs either own one of the more gas friendly types or they have legitimate reasons for owning an SUV (farm, business, live in the arctic region of Minnesota or Maine).
