5. After seeing Bush* win a second term I wouldn't doubt it either.
I know that some people are disputing the legitimacy of the election, but think about it this way: if he even got close enough to be able to cheat, that still says something.

19. Or, look at it this way:
Four years after a very close election, the country is once again nearly evenly divided (assuming you believe the numbers we're given); or, Bush's level of support hasn't really budged in four years.

And I'm one of those who disputes the legitimacy of the election (and the one before it).

But I take your point that Bush did get a bunch of morons' votes.

People in the US are totally ignorant and self-absorbed.
I don't know that I wouldn't have started laughing my ass off at that woman right there.

18. well
overt displays of religiosity tend to set off my bullshit meter, and when I see a post suggesting police abuse from such a person, I find it worthy of comment.

20. like i said, you don't know me
unlike the fundies, who i assume you're referring too, I do take my religion and the be nice to everyone schitck. Also unlike the fundies, i don't consider myself holier than thou and I know that i'm not perfect. Not saying i condone police abuse in way, shape or form. Just having a little fun, playing off the previous post (notice I backed away from the hellfire missle idea). I think that if you're going around expecting or demanding that religious people act perfect, you're going to be disapointed. But then I garner that you know we're not perfect and so use that to justify any biasness you have against religious people and religion in general.

21. No
I'm not expecting perfection. That's not at all what I was saying.

It's just that given all the recent developments, I'm pretty wary of people who wear their religion on their sleeves, and yes, I do tend to notice overt displays of hypocrisy.

Frankly, I just wish all the religious people would worship in private, as jesus instructed.

23. what exactly is wrong with my sig and avatar?
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 11:14 PM by pres2032
I have a cross, which a lot of people have, a memorial for a major religious figure which has only been up for a day and will be gone in less than a week, and a quote from Jesus which the second half of it talks about something that most people, religious and non-religious, should follow and most do.

Do you notice hypocrisy in your fellow atheists, or do you just look at us religous people?

17. I used to answer 911 calls, I would bet this is legit
We would frequently get stupid calls like that. I once had a man call and ask me the number of the nearest local gay bar. We went very wrong somewhere with spoonfeeding the "customer is always right" attitude to the public. 911 is for emergencies, which generally means you have a felony just committed, you see a car accident, or a felony is being committed (as far as police are concerned), then you have the medical emergencies. Otherwise, people should not be using 911.

I suppose it would depend on the state. I think it is pretty rare that people get charged with it, though.

32. There are really so many people like that
The ones who heckle waitresses, yell at store checkers. They think that the purpose of the world is to make them happy. There is a problem, obviously, when they come across a problem. Since they have been spoonfed their whole lives, they don't know how to get through life's little bumps in the road. They think that minute little issues that most folks don't think twice about are life ending issues not only for them, but should be for everyone around them. I think everybody like this should be put on "Simple Life", not just Paris and Nicole. Maybe, we should start with *.

33. I've noticed it's been getting much worse lately,
and I have always tried to find the good in people. It's getting harder to make people smile anymore also.

Many are so very unhappy in their lives they jump on every petty annoyance as some monumental event. You are right, life's little bumps are too much for them to deal with. My sister takes the kids to the ER for a small scratch! For real! And we're all supposed to be excited about it, as you pointed out.:banghead:

The Lunatic DimSun is just plain old simpleton. I saw a commercial for the Simple Life, it'd be too difficult for him. Maybe Blue's Clues, nope too intellectual. I don't know enough shows too figure it out.

Goodnight.
