I was asked to take on a new job, but it would mean
relocating to Rome.

I don't know. It comes with housing and all, but...

nah, too much hassle.

16. Will you proclaim the Augsburg Confession and the Apology to the AC as..

official dogma?

What other confessional documents would you include? Would you go the German route and do the whole book of Concord thing, or keep it to the AC and AAC as the Scandinavians do?

Don't forget to hook up the fellow Namibians with some seats in the college of Cardinals.

24. Well then we have to accept the Book of Concord, which I'm cool with
Actually, it seems odd to me that the ELCA and LWF were able to agree to stop co-condemnation with Rome, and not the LCMS. Of course the LCMS has no interest in talking to anyone, because they're still pissed of at the Prussians who made them worship together with Calvinists, thus triggering their emmigration from Germany to the US and giving them a zest for doctrinal purity. And the ELCA seems to want to play with everyone. When you really would consider the ultimate consequences of an ELCA reconciliation with Rome, I think it becomes evident that we cannot be "brought back into the fold" of the Catholic church. Women's ordination, joint communion with Presbyterians who don't even believe in the bodily presence in the Eucharist, let alone trans-substantiation, these would not fly with Rome. I guess what I'm getting at is that the ELCA has both modernized and formed connections to the point where we could not become another rite of the Catholic church, although I do think that there are some within our ranks who would like that.

The LCMS on the other hand has kept things sufficiently old-fashioned (male ordination only, close communion as is practiced in both Catholicism and Orthodoxy, office of the keys being taken seriously) and avoided any connections to the point where for them a reconciliation would have few logistical difficulties. The funny thing is though that the LCMS is so dedicated to the ideas of the reformation that they would never be able to compromise with Rome for the sake of unity.

25. That is a an interesting observation on LCMS... I had
not thought of it that way.

From what I am hearing, the Roman Church itself is embracing reformation more radical than good old MartyL could concieve.

Meanwhile, the "reformed" churches seem to go more orthodox.

Weird world.

22. You'll probably only have to stay in Rome a few years
Then the company will send you back stateside after you've done your tour. Take the position and you can probably write your own ticket before long. I'd go for it. Rome is a beautiful city, the Italian people are charming and friendly but most of all you'd be infallible.
