42. Princess, you might try this subject on Google --
There are books, articles, tapes, and counseling services for this problem.

Is there any way YOU can do the taxes this year -- or get to H. & R. Block or other tax preparer? I did then when I was divorced, and it worked out fine.

My husband does the taxes in our home, and he does them promptly just after Jan. 31st. He gets the Turbo Tax program, usually in January or February.

The Federal program can be downloaded at:
http://www.intuit.com
State program comes with it free.

Costco, CompUSA, Staples probably still sell the program. I'm lucky that my husband is skilled at preparing the taxes and he doesn't mind doing it.

He did my taxes in 1972, before we were married. That's how I knew he loved me!

4. Did ours early for once this year
Actually, I cheated-- I forked over the $150 and had a preparer do them for us instead.

All I can say is, if you have the means, get somebody else to do them. I was unemployed most of last year, and my state doesn't take out taxes from unemployment checks. Plus, my wife and I both had numerous jobs and refinanced the mortgage AND took out a home equity loan, too.

Needless to say, it was the best $150 I spent this year.

And this is for him:

HEY CO LIBERAL GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND DO THOSE TAXES BEFORE THE PRINCESS GETS MORE P.O.'D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps! :P

5. Now wait, - do you guys end up having to pay bucks or
do you generally end up getting money back from the government?

'Cause if you have to pay, you want to wait until the last minute. As long as it's still your money, you can still earn and keep the interest on it. As soon as you've sent the check, it's their interest.

If on the other hand, the IRS usually owes you a refund, you can motivate him by offering him the lions share of the refund for an indulgence he's wanted, big screen tv, season tickets, whatever....

I'd still get the paperwork done and out of the way as soon as possible.

He does all the heavy lifting too. And I make myself pretty for him when he comes home and I meet him at the door with a cold beer.

He does the taxes because I haven't the slightest idea what MATH is.

18. How about an accountant?
Is he reluctant to do the taxes because it's an odious, tedious, headache-inducing task? If so, an accountant's fee might just be worth it.
