1. I don't get TCM.
But I like marshmallows. Should I know something?

2. Perhaps it's about 'Joan of Arc' and burnings at the stake?

3. Yes, that's what it's about.
Now the flames they followed Joan of Arc
as she came riding through the dark;
no moon to keep her armour bright,
no man to get her through this very smoky night.
She said, "I'm tired of the war,
I want the kind of work I had before,
a wedding dress or something white
to wear upon my swollen appetite."
Well, I'm glad to hear you talk this way,
you know I've watched you riding every day
and something in me yearns to win
such a cold and lonesome heroine.
"And who are you?" she sternly spoke
to the one beneath the smoke.
"Why, I'm fire," he replied,
"And I love your solitude, I love your pride."

"Then fire, make your body cold,
I'm going to give you mine to hold,"
saying this she climbed inside
to be his one, to be his only bride.
And deep into his fiery heart
he took the dust of Joan of Arc,
and high above the wedding guests
he hung the ashes of her wedding dress.

It was deep into his fiery heart
he took the dust of Joan of Arc,
and then she clearly understood
if he was fire, oh then she must be wood.
I saw her wince, I saw her cry,
I saw the glory in her eye.
Myself I long for love and light,
but must it come so cruel, and oh so bright?

4. If you are going to say "the church", shouldn't Church be capitalized
Yeah, I thought so.

9. If you're interested....
in the Catholic church's treatment of women...you should check out the movie "Magdalene Sisters". It's out on DVD/VHS, and it was really good, with really good extras from the women it was based on.

10. Yes, "The Passion of Joan of Arc"...
I consider it to be the second greatest film ever made, behind "The Godfather" and ahead of "Vertigo".

Absolutely breathtaking.

11. More like how the English treated women
Her death had more to do with her successful campaigns against the English than anything else. The Church was merely the tool they used to carry out her death.

12. And also rather too exceptional to serve as an example
The anti-feminist stance of the Church fathers, the subordinate role women have long held within the Church, the persecution of women as witches, are more typical examples -

not only of the Church's treatment of women, but of many cultures throughout history. The Church doesn't get a pass, but it's hardly a unique offender.
