I think there's something wrong with me.
I'm a Christian but I don't get offended when people say "Jeebus" or things like that.

Why don't I?

No sarcasm.

10. If they're REALLY hateful about it, I just see it as more of a
reflection on them than anything else. But it still doesn't really bother me.

I think (I've had an epiphany here) it's because I can't imagine Jesus or God getting offended. You know? I mean I just can't see them huffing "Well, I NEVER!"

 So why get offended on behalf of them, when I don't think THEY would be? Like someone said above, I truly believe they have a sense of humor.

Whoops, I just realized I've been talking about God and Jesus like they are two separate deities. I HAVE to get this stuff straight.

...definately has something wrong with them.

But as a Christian, I find no offense over the Jebus stuff because I realize it's geared towards so-call Christians on the fundamentlist side of the spectrum

19. NO FUN.
Then you definitely never want to eat my Orgasmic Oatmeal. My roommate really named it that when I was in college and it became a very requested dish.

The ingredients are secret, though, so I can't reveal them. But it's oatmeal that isn't like normal oatmeal and it makes people's eyes roll back in their heads and makes them moan.

27. Girl, I have to do something about you.
ORGASMIC oatmeal???? And it's not like NORMAL oatmeal? It makes mortals weak in the knees. It makes people unable to speak for a bit.

I think I'm making it for breakfast tomorrow, it's been a long-ass time since I've had some OO.

(This is SUCH a weird sub-topic for this thread, isn't it? LOL)

with LynneSin, GOPisEvil and NoPasaran a week ago and all I could do was moan. They were so freaking good. I don't know if it's just a Texas thing, but I have GOT to have more migas soon.

Lynne wouldn't even try them because they had onions in them.

I truly feel that the offensive remarks just roll off of you since you aren't threatened by them. You are truly tolerant of other viewpoints...More power to you!

17. Aw, thanks!
I love studying other religions, too. It's so interesting. Did you know that in Hinduism, there's no judgement for someone leading a debauched life? Yep. See, ultimately, you are supposed to get to a point of enlightenment, but say someone is having fun sleeping around, drinking, whatever, well other Hindus are to look at that as "well that's what is giving that person pleasure now...if and when they want to move on toward higher enlightenment, they will."

Imagine if today's bushbot Christians could be like that. Wow.

18. Some people need it...
... and some need it... very badly.

M'self, I've got a feeling that the Christ that actually walked around, and not the one in the Bible now, were he to be transplanted into this time and place, probably would have found Lenny Bruce terribly funny... and the first time I said, "Jesus Christ on a bicycle!" would have said, "like this?" :)

26. I don't take offense either, and in fact I make such jokes myself
I take the Jebus comment as ridiculing shallow conceptions of faith rather than ridiculing faith or Christianity itself. Since I think far too many of what the media considers Christians--the Dodsons, Robertsons, etc. of the world--trumpet very narrow interpretations of Christ's teachings while ignoring the heart of the matter (mercy, taking care of others, etc.), criticism along those lines doesn't bother me at all. The Jebus thing and most other things along those lines don't strike me as anti-Christian at all.

I'm a Christian, but unlike many of the Christians on DU, I don't think there is a lot of hostility towards Christianity on this forum, since I interpret most of the "attacks" as criticisms of fundamentalism, organized religion, dogma, hypocritical showiness, and similar things which I also hold in low regard.

33. As an atheist, I'll take a guess
I think that if christians truly believe they have the son of an omnipotent, omniscient creator/deity/supreme being on their side, why should they care about the disrespectful/satirical/silly remarks of a few mortal non-believers or doubters?

If I were a christian, I would like to think that faith in such a being was the ultimate in thick skin, no? Let the opinions of others to the contrary roll right off my back.

It could show just how strong your faith is if you are not offended.

hey you changed your avatar.

Yeah, you know I always kinda saw it the way you described it above. I mean SON OF GOD and all that, heck, who's gonna care about "Jeebus?"

The Guy in the Sky has gone by so many different names, and who's to say he finds one over the other offensive or pleasurable? Not for me to say.
