Not the same however. I know a guy who somehow knew one of the sons and laughs when he tells a story about drinking at there house and realizing he was hammered at Trudeau's place.

51. A.E. van Vogt
The most influential largely-unknown science fiction writer ever. There's hardly an SF movie or tv show that isn't indebted to him. Everything from superpowered mutants to time lords to the prime directive goes back to his stories of the 1940's. One of Canada's great gifts to the world.

76. Any chance you guys could come invade us?
Obviously we've proven we're utterly unable to govern ourselves responsibly.

Here's a wishlist of the things some of us would like:

- Freedom from discrimination
- Prohibition of any one religious faith imposing its beliefs on everybody else
- A balanced budget
- Universal healthcare
- A decent education system, including college for any who qualify
- A non-bullying foreign policy
- No wars of aggression, justified with lies and misdirection
- A much smaller military and non-aggressive defense policy
- Adherence to international laws and treaties
- NO TORTURE
- Outlawing of capital punishment
- Sound environmental policies that promote conservation and preservation
- A sensible energy policy that moves us away from dependence on fossil fuels

Thanks,
A Concerned and Deeply Chagrined U.S. Citizen

93. Curling, come on!
I know it supposedly originated elsewhere, but who's made it a national pastime?

Bocce on ice, plus drinks bought by the winners after. What's not to like?

105. good energy!
canada, to me, is like your level-headed best friend, the one who gives you a reality check now and then.

i like canadian beer, too.

a canadian friend of mine (male, who chums around with chomsky, by the way) said one reason he liked me was because most american women drink white wine, but i was more like a canadian woman swilling beer.

106. Blood transfusions
They were discovered by a Canadian surgeon while fighting for the Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Unfortunately his name escapes me right now....

IMHO it's one of the greatest medical discoveries of all time. Without transfusions, major life-saving surguries could not exist.

Plus they've got the friendliest people up there, in the "true north strong and free".
