What is your nickname and why?
Mine is "Face". When I was about 12, my father just started calling me that. He called me Face for about a month until I finally asked him why. He said it is because I am always making faces, which I am. I have a rubber face. The nickname has stuck.

How about your nicknames?

15. Skillet because I can cook very well
Be-seff (biscuit eating mother fucker) because I grew up in rural Arkansas. Bok Tuklo is a familial nickname that is a Choctaw pun on my last name. 5-O as in "book em Dano" because of the car I drive. Guru because of my job function.

Want more? I hear them all except for Bok Tuklo almost daily.

My brothers (I have 3) called me Face because they always said I was ugly. Actually, I've always pretty good looking. Lately age is catching up...

Anyway, it was really kind of damaging, because it took a long time for me to realize I wasn't ugly! Isn't that cruel?

and that started the nickname for the rest of the grandkids. Cute story here...my second grandchild had called me Nonnie for five years, and she also has another grandmother she calls Mimi, and a greatgrandmother she calls Mimaw. One day I was explaining to her that her mother was my daughter, which made me her grandmother. Her eyes got real wide and she exclaimed, "I HAVE A GRANDMOTHER? OH BOY!"
With all the nonnies and mimis and moomoos, the poor kid never realized she had a grandmother. Let alone, several!

I like collecting all sorts of electronic gadgets. My field in the Army was Signals Intelligence so my foundation is numerous scanners, both base and mobile. Yep, and antennas galore: Fortunately my large discone antenna is located in our attic. A smaller discone for my mobile scanner is hanging from the highest point (13') of our vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom.

I guess you could say that I'm both wired and connected. <eg>

I felt honored to work around so many intelligent people. Some of the enlisted translators were honestly "brilliant." The other cryptology MOSs were no slackers either. I was a clueless 22 year old "butter bar," but I had some excellent NCOs who helped me learn the ropes.

Yes, there were some really bad times but overall I was blessed to have served on active duty (INSCOM Warrior) during the 80s.

Unfortunately, IMO we can't say that anymore. Especially with our present leadership in both the Pentagon and the Executive Branch. :(

of it at the very top. I served under Bush1 and Clinton. I think Bush1 was out of touch, but it wasn't awful serving under him. Although many other soldiers didn't like serving under Clinton, I did. I thought he was a thoughtful leader.

so does someone else around here when I call him his annoying nickname. *whistles tunelessly while waiting for "Doll-baby" Pitt to show up* :)

My dad has called me "Scooter" since I was a baby. Before I learned to walk or even really crawl, if I wanted to get around I would sit up, kick my legs out in front of me, then scoot my butt up to my feet and then repeat the process til I got where I wanted to go.

I think Will just uses it because it's pretty damn annoying to have the same nickname as Lewis "Scooter" Libby. *sigh*

58. "Blue-Jay" was given to me by blues diva E.C Scott.
She was playing in my hometown several years ago at a club that I frequented. Her regular saxman had been involved in a traffic accident and was hospitalized a few hours before the gig. I got a call from the club owner and Ms Scott asking if I could sit in with her band for the night, so of course I said "You're fucking RIGHT I can! I'll be there in ten minutes!"

I already had two of her CDs and so was familiar with many of her songs, and the night went better than anyone could have suspected. After I got finished blowing a solo on You Got The Wrong Number, she introduced me to the crowd, but forgot my actual name. She remembered that it started with a 'J', so she said "Give it up for Jaaaaaaay....um... BLUUUE JAY!"

A bunch of my musician friends were in attendance that night, so the name stuck. I ended up touring with her for a few weeks, and that led to a tour (due to EC's recommendation) with Debbie Davies as well.

At any rate, be sure to check out EC Scott the next time you're looking to listen to some good blues. She's awesome.

So... That's the "Blue-Jay" story.

Hi, Mom! :hi:
