It's cold, damp, and it'll probably start raining again. I NEED PLANTS! I NEED TO DIG SOMETHING! I NEED TO GET ALL SWEATY AND DIRTY (not by doing that, cheeky devil!)

I NEED MY GARDEN TO GROW! NOW! ARRRRRRGGGGGRRRRMMMUNFFF!

sigh. Is it Easter yet?

1. Did you create that garden? It's gorgeous.
I have a little wooded area with clearings that I'd like to turn into your pictures! Any suggestions? What kinds of plants are those?

in the book.

I do well with all hostas, liriope thrives, astilbe, bugbane(cimicifuga), ligularia, clematis, ferns, some asters in the sun areas, berginia, campanula keeps its foliage all through the snow and everything, there's dicentra (bleeding heart, joe-pye weed, filipendula (queen of the prarie), hardy geraniums (cranesbill), heuchera, iris, lamium, Oenothera, phlox, sedums, violets, ginger, ajunga, akebia, plumbago, epimedium, euonymus, vinca, sweet woodruf, wintergreen, all sorts of hydrangea climbing, oakleaf, etc., lysimachia, pachysandra, virginia creeper, moss, abelia bushes, rhododendron, azaleas, plum cherry bushes, junipers, a witch hazel, a black catkin willow, myrtles, barberries, beautyberries, bayberries, butterfly bushes, spirea, a harry lauder's walking stick, different varieties of cotoneasters, forsythias, kerria, tree peonys, all sorts of viburnums, wegila, boxwoods, Holly, mahonia, chinese clump bamboo, pieris, yucca . . . I know I left some of my babies out . . .

Soil is the key. Sun is not good here, but you have to concentrate on maintaining the oxygen, nitrogen balance: sun vs. soil.

5. Thank you.
I see a lot of my favorites there.

I'm a rank beginner and know nothing about soil, but I'll keep your comments in mind.

6. Better Homes and Garden book is a good one
Home Depot should have one. Then just start diving into as many as you can get a hold of! Go nuts! We know instinctively what to do out there. Nature will teach you the rest. :hi:

2. Um, why not by "doing that?"
It'll use up your spare energy and get your mind off gardening for a little bit!
