What is your all-time favorite sitcom?
No poll, there are too many out there and not enough space to give representation. But for me, my all-time favorite sitcom is the Dick Van Dyke Show. I have all five seasons on DVD and it has been a laugh riot. It is the first truly sophisticated sitcom (even though Dick was a master at slapstick comedy too). Dick and Mary Tyler Moore represented televisions Camelot in that era.

runner(s)up: "Andy Griffith Show" and "Bewitched"

1. Simpsons.
But DvD had some great material! Remember the one where he and Maury went to a beatnik play? Hy-sterical!!

I have never laughed so hard as I did when the WPIG pig and Herb (in the WKRP Carp suit) got into a fight in the public washroom!

24. Remember the Turkey Giveaway?
They were doing a promotion for Thanksgiving, and they threw live turkeys out of helicopters into a crowd at a shopping center. Les Nesmith was covering it live for the station, and, all of sudden, you heard the screams of the crowd.

Gordon Jump, who was the owner, came walking in, all bedraggled, and said the best line I've ever heard on TV:

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

16. Another for Barney Miller. Great cop show.
Remember the episode when they locked up a guy who thought he was a werewolf, obvliously nuts, and he was supposedly going through a transformation in the "cage"? Yemana (Jack Soo),looking nervous, asked Barney if he should lay down some newspapers on the floor of the cell.

Another favorite, Barney has to serve time for contempt(not exposing a snitch), the guys at the precinct chip in and give him a Soap on a Rope.

36. the Mr. Kopeckne episode ...
i think that was the name of the character who turned into a werewolf ..

and i vaguely remember Dietrich telling Barney about it and Barney asked him whether there was a law against turning into a werewolf ...

Dietrich responded that "possession is nine tenths of the law" ...

I guess MASH is still my number one show but Barney Miller comes in an easy second ...

6. Freaks and Geeks
Yeah, I guess since it only ran one season it never really had a chance to go bad, but I love every episode.

My runners-up are "Seinfeld" and "The Wonder Years" and probably a couple others that slip my mind at the moment.

8. Sienfeld
I think it'll go down as a classic and be one of those shows that continue to run in syndication (or whatever we have to view old shows) for decades like the Honeymooners.

Followed closely for me by Cheers. Which by the way I think had the best series finale. (Sienfeld's stunk)

I used to love the Dick Van Dyke Show (in reruns I'm not that old :) when I was a kid.

One of the all time best shows sit com or otherwise. I guess I didn't think of it because I don't automatically associate it with "sitcom" but it is a sitcom.

That has to be the best sitcom ever; it's still funny.

I loved Moonlighting when it was on, but I'm not sure how it would hold up now; I heard it's out (or coming out) on DVD so we'll see.

So here are five:

All in the Family
Seinfeld
Frasier
Cheers
Family Guy

Britcoms were deliberately left off, otherwise it would have to be a Top Fifteen.
