Group proposal: Stupidity Acceptance Group (SAG):

Mission statement:

In light of recent social trends attempting to make light of the stupid among us, and stupidity in general (I refer to "Jackass", "Tom Green", "Punk'd", and that show with Paris and Nicole, to name but a few), it is obvious that the stupid in our society are being unfairly marked for ridicule.

A recent survey cited that half the population of the Western World could be considered 'stupid', statistically. Furthermore, half those people are even more stupid than that.

The fact of the matter is that some people are just born stupid, and no amount of mental exercise, brain surgery, or other treatment techniques are going to change that. It is time that the Democratic Underground, as an accepting, supportive and progressive entity creat an environment which will allow stupid people to meet and discuss issues which directly impact them.

There have been advances in stupidity treatment over the past few years, but there is evidence that this artificial enlightenment can be dangerous, or even fatal, to the naturally stupid. While discussion of such treatments may be a small part of what will occur in the SAG, the underlying mission of the SAG is the acceptance and support of stupidity as a natural human condition, and the discouragememt of any procedures which would diminish the ranks of the stupid.

A Stupidity Acceptance Group (SAG) is long overdue at DU. I suggest DU earmark one of the spaces in the excellent new "Groups" feature for exactly that purpose.

Furthermore, that link should be easy to find, for obvious reasons.

Please feel free to comment on this proposal, so I can tweak and polish it before presenting it to the Administrators.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Yes, humans seem to be basically stupid. I try to ignore them. Each year there is less to watch on TV because so many more programs play to the stupid. In fact, it seems stupid men is something to be proud of.

Schooling beyond what is legally mandated is unacceptable. One can't truly be accepting one's own stupidity if one is going to school. It's a contradiction.
