Jesus really WAS a peace activist!

:D

(Decent music, too. Well, most of it, anyway.)

1. I don't know how to love him....
What to do, how to move him.
I've been changed, yes really changed.
In these past few days, when I've seen myself,
I seem like someone else.
I don't know how to take this.
I don't see why he moves me.
He's a man. He's just a man.
And I've had so many men before,
In very many ways,
He's just one more.
Should I bring him down?
Should I scream and shout?
Should I speak of love,
Let my feelings out?
I never thought I'd come to this.
What's it all about?
Don't you think it's rather funny,
I should be in this position.
I'm the one who's always been
So calm, so cool, no lover's fool,
Running every show.
He scares me so.
I never thought I'd come to this.
What's it all about?
Yet, if he said he loved me,
I'd be lost. I'd be frightened.
I couldn't cope, just couldn't cope.
I'd turn my head. I'd back away.
I wouldn't want to know.
He scares me so.
I want him so.
I love him so.

3. Which version, old hippy bus one or new goth one?
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 09:22 PM by uppityperson
My 16 yr old asked if he could get JCS and almost dropped over when I knew what he was talking about. We got the new one and it is very interesting. I always felt sorry for Judas, doing everything he could to try to help and being manipulated as much as he was. Anyway, my son is going around singing the songs now too. If you haven't seen the new version, check it out.

4. Old hippy bus one, man!!
We were giggling at the rabbi's big black rubbery vinyl hat thingies. Is that bad?

I'm surprised by how much I like it so far, actually.

21. Dark, leather, machine guns in 1 scene, wayyyy different than hippy one
I think it came out in the last yr or 2. If you do Netflix, they have it. Darker costuming, scenery and acting, much more modern. Of course JC is blonde, and Mary is quite sexy, it works. I thought it would be stupid, being 50 and all, but I took the advice of my 16 yr old and it was good. Rather strange hearing the same words, but cool. The singers are very good in this version. Punky, gothy, darker.

It shows Judas in a different light than the hippy bus JCS movie does I think, though it's been a bit since I've seen that version.

5. I love that musical...
It's probably my favorite one, actually....

One of the first songs I learned to play chords for on piano:

I only want to say
If there is a way
Take this cup away from me
For I don't want to taste its poison
Feel it burn me,
I have changed I'm not as sure
As when we started
Then I was inspired
Now I'm sad and tired
Listen surely I've exceeded
Expectations
Tried for three years
Seems like thirty
Could you ask as much
From any other man?

But if I die
See the saga through
And do the things you ask of me
Let them hate me, hit me, hurt me
Nail me to their tree
I'd want to know
I'd want to know my God
I'd want to know
I'd want to know my God
I'd want to see
I'd want to see my God
I'd want to see
I'd want to see my God
Why I should die
Would I be more noticed
Than I ever was before?
Would the things I've said and done
Matter any more?
I'd have to know
I'd have to know my Lord
I'd have to know
I'd have to know my Lord
I'd have to see
I'd have to see my Lord
I'd have to see
I'd have to see my Lord

6. No way! You've never seen it? I love that show.
When I was 14, I sang "I Don't Know How to Love Him" in church one Sunday... little did they know what it was really about :)

7. It amazes me when I meet fundamentalists that love this version
Jesus doesn't come out as sparkely as one would think they would like him to.

The ones you were talking to must not have seen it or didn't watch too closely.

11. I saw it on the stage in Greenville, SC (at the Peace Center)
a few years ago and the Bob Jones'ers were out protesting in force. They told all who were in line to enter that we were going to hell.

If I knew that I was going to be damned for all time, I would have sprung for floor seats instead of the balcony.

12. Oh yeah, we're coming up on Easter...
That's my favorite of all the movie versions of the basic Jesus story. Nothing like a bunch of lepers singing in 7/8 time!

I liked it but the play wasn't very professional. I think I'll rent the movie or see a professional version sometime.

22. another good song
Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
oh Don't you know
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try
We'll get by
So forget all about us tonight

Apostles' Women
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

Mary Magdalene
Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you and anoint you
Myrrh for your hot forehead
oh Then you'll feel
Everything's all right
Yes everything's fine
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet
Close your eyes
Close your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing tonight

Apostles' Women
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes
