Opinions Needed Please
I fell behind in my classes when I got sick back in August and I have several incomplete in Culinary.
I thought that I had several weeks to go to finish my incomplete and I just realized that I have until Monday to finish my classes which means I will end up with a lower grade then I am capable of getting.

I am thinking about asking my teachers to give me a D+ or the highest D that you can get and then I will take the classes over and get an A+ or the highest A (I am not sure what the GPA for the highest grade is but I am capable of getting it).
If they average it out I would come out with a low B (I think). That sucks in my book but I can live with it.

If I get a C in my classes I can't take the class over without paying for it but If I get a D I can take the class over for free and they will go with a combo of both grades.

I missed the last two weeks of my classes when I got sick and my classes are only 8 weeks long. I feel like I missed something in both of them.
I can go in and cook my heart out and I will pass with a C without the written test and final paper that is due or I can ask my teacher to give me a high D and take the class over.

I don't know what to do.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1. Can't you take the class over if you get an Incomplete?
Usually they give you the next whole semester to make up an incomplete before it actually becomes a grade but all schools are different.

I'd rather get an Incomplete than a D so discuss this with your professors.

2. That seem like an awful lot of work just to get a 'B' instead of a 'C'
I would go for the 'C' and try to make up for it in my GPA with other classes that you need to take. It seems like a waste of time just to get a little bit better grade. I could understand it if you were going to get a 'D' or an 'F'.

7. Have you learned what you need to learn from these classes?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 02:31 PM by Divernan
If so, take the C and don't waste time retaking them. Remember that the sooner you complete the program, the sooner you can start working in your field. But, are these prerequisite classes for more advanced classes? Are they subjects that are particularly important to the kind of work you plan to do? In other words, will you be at a professional disadvantage because you haven't learned everything you need to learn from these classes? Then you should retake them.

ON EDIT:

NOW you tell us about the scholarship! That makes a big difference. If C grades will cost you the scholarship, then retake the classes.

11. Take the incomplete if possible
I was in a similar situation and the professor and my advisor both suggested taking an incomplete. It does not affect your GPA so you should be able to keep your scholarship, and you should be able to take the class again. Good Luck.

13. Agreed on the incomplete
...Worst case scenario, you could also look into withdrawing and re-registering. I knew someone who did that to avoid failing and killing his GPA when he had a family tragedy and had to miss a lot.

14. Thanks
I need the classes over again because I missed Rye Breads and I can flub it and make the bread but I am the type that doesn't like to miss anything.

I want to be a teacher and a tour chef and I want to learn everything possible.
