3. Just in time for this article on DeLorean cars on the NYT
Putting a Car of the Future Back on the Road

By STEVEN KURUTZ

Published: March 18, 2005

N the dim half-light of a Long Island garage, a handful of DeLoreans stand in darkened corners or suspended on hydraulic lifts, their trademark gull-wing doors ajar, their stainless-steel silver shells still ultramodern more than two decades after the DeLorean Motor Company went bust. Visible through a dusty window in the parking lot outside, perhaps 20 more DeLoreans, lined up and identical, sit waiting, like some surreal automotive dream.

6. My favorite DeLorean moment was when thugs tried
breaking into Bond's DeLorean and it exploded.

I can see the audience cheering at that one. Dunno if it was for the loss of the good looking but non-efficient car or for the thugs.

9. Michael Moore walks among us, because of DeLorean....

The first expose' of GM was the book On A Clear Day You Can See General Motors, written by John DeLorean after he left the corp. GM, with the help of the federal government of the day, attempted to frame DeLorean with cocaine trafficking. He was acquitted and GM learned to exercise some restraint when it came to dealing with its' critics.

The Delorean Car was notable for its craftsmanship and safety features.

Too far ahead of it's time for this crowd......

11. Whatever you think John DeLorean was an inovator...he gave life
to Pontiac in his time with GM. Enduring designs like the GTO & Firebird. His passion did get him in trouble but he brought to the world a car like no other. He got caught up in the culture of the time just like Iran/Contra, etc. a way to get some quick bucks. His car still marches on and was made timeless by the movies.

A car built in Ireland, with a French engine and sold in the US, brilliant.

12. Say what....????

"He got caught up in the culture of the time just like Iran/Contra, etc. a way to get some quick bucks."

I don't think so.....He was framed by GM acting in concert with Richard Nixon.

Guess how long a stainless steel exhaust system lasts....?? And whoever would have thought of disc brakes on a high performance Detroit auto...????

14. People would buy those cars today if there were new ones
Someone would need to make a new set of body dies--at http://www.dmcnews.com/faq/h_dies.htm you will learn that Thyssen, who owned them, sold them as scrap metal to a salmon fisherman.

With a set of dies (I assume the plans to make these dies exist somewhere; if not, the DeLorean Motor Company Texas sells every panel in the car, from which takeoffs could be accomplished) and a more popular engine like a small-block Chevy, you could make a car that people would like very much.
