Engagement pictures from Pakistan!
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 08:12 PM by DeposeTheBoyKing
These are some of the engagement photos taken of my husband's nephew in Pakistan, his fiancee and the family. I think the family is all quite beautiful, if I do say so myself!

The bride-to-be:

Nephew and his sisters, brother and his nephew/niece

Nephew, his parents, sisters, etc. and I think the bride's mother

My husband's great-nieces:

4. I hope so
Probably won't take place for a year or two (they seem to have long engagements there). I haven't been privileged to go to Pakistan yet, and that would be a good occasion.

13. hope you get to go, and by then you will be living down here
anyway, so the heat won't shock you as much LOL

You are coming down to stay in May/June, right?

That is approx when my hubby is coming back from Wyoming.

14. How long have you been apart?
Well, I was born and raised in Kansas, so I'm used to the heat; but I've adjusted nicely to Pittsburgh summers and am not looking forward to a return to the ovens!

Yes, I am moving the cats and some stuff in mid-May, starting my bar review course, returning to Pittsburgh for graduation and then driving the rest of the stuff down on May 28th.

19. He went to Wyoming in mid April so almost a year; he was here
for 3 weeks last June, then I went up for two stays of one week each

He was here for Christmas and then again for two weeks in January

It hasn't been easy, and my yard looks like hell, but he has been having a blast doing what he loves best after a long absence from the profession, and is now positioned to find work much closer to home.

I think his feet did not touch the ground for the first six months he was up there.

We are both looking forward to his return to Texas.

When did Mr Depose come to Irving?

By the way, it was fun to meet you at the Dallas meet up couple of weeks ago.

20. It will be a joyous reunion for you
We moved my husband to Texas in mid-August. I could have done third year in Dallas, but figured because I only had a year to go I'd stay and finish the job where I started it, and I think it's been the right decision. I'm looking forward to transplantation, though!

It was great to meet you, too! I'm trying to get my sister to move to Texas; I think she'd enjoy the DU crowd there.

10. I know. I love mehndi, too.
I've had it twice and would like to have it again. I always wish I had Pakistani/Indian blood; I think they're so exotically beautiful. Of course, they tell me they wish they were fair-skinned like me. No one's ever happy! It shows that in several cultures the lighter skin is preferred, which I think is completely bogus.

11. Beautiful!!! Congrats to them as well
I must say I love all the color in their clothing. I was a bit surprised by the dramatic use of makeup and lipstick though. I guess I had never really thought about other "cultures" using makeup as heavily as we do here in the west. It's not a bad thing -- that's not what I mean to say at all. I was just surprised by it.

She is a lovely girl and I wish them all the happiness in the world!

12. They only do it for weddings
Their beauty salons (and Pakistani ones here) offer "wedding packages" - they do hair, makeup, eyebrow threading and mehndi.

15. That makes sense to me now then
She would be beautiful even without all that makeup but I can understand how it would make her feel special. Sounds sensible to me.

Isn't it amazing how we in the west put stuff on our faces to make it look like we aren't wearing any stuff on our faces? LOL

16. I suspect a lot of it may be for the photos
I think they make an even bigger deal of weddings than we do.

17. Is this an arranged marriage?
Just curious, since I know that's quite common in Pakistan (and India, too); I have two friends who made their parents very unhappy by not marrying who they were "supposed" to.

18. Yes, but my husband's family it's not really "forced" on them
The children always get a say. Usually it's a marriage with a family they've known a long time.

I'm not Pakistani or Pakistani-American; I'm an Albino-American! My husband sorta bucked the trend when he married me, but they were fine with it. They just wanted to make sure that he was certain about me, and he told them he was.
