Computer Mac help Needed
Monday morning I went to click on my Internet Explorer, my computer froze and continues to do it whenever I click on IE. Thank goodness I also have Netscape.

I am able to obtain my favorites from IE. Do you know the problem?
Should I just trash my old IE and download a new one, or call someone to fix this? Also, every so often when I click on Netscape they ask me to register. I click no and Netscape does appear. In the meantime my bookmarks from Netscape are not there.

There is no problem using Outlook Express.

Cox my high speed internet server says this is not their problem.

If you can help, I would appreciate it.

1. The good part of having a Mac is not using MicroSoft software.
I'd say to ditch your IE entirely. It sounds like it is "teh brokenz" and I honestly have very little idea of how to fix it on a Macintosh.

2. I'd reinstall it
Mine crashes about 3 or 4 times a day. But it doesn't freeze up. You should be able to import your favorites into Netscape. I think it's in Preferences I've had very good luck with Safari.

3. First, I would trash IE all together. It is not being updated

I would suggest Safari or FireFox. Both have tabbed browsing, a feature missing on IE.

You know that there is a Mac group on DU? Check out groups to find it.

On edit. In Safari you have to go into preferences and turn on tabbed browsing.

4. Absolutely
Firefox or Safari are both far superior to IE. You'll be amazed at how much faster pages render with one of these browsers compared to IE.

8. Probably not
Macintosh computers are pretty safe as far as viruses and worms go. OS 9.2 may not be as immune as OS X, but it's still pretty good.

As stated below, Safari and Firefox are not available for 9.2, but there are still versions of Mozilla that will work. (Firefox is part of the Mozilla family). Go to:

http://www.mozilla.org/download.html#os9

As far as maintenance goes for 9.2, have you zapped your PRAM and rebuilt your desktop? Those should be your first steps if something isn't working right.

7. Safari only works for OSX. Same for FireFox.
Some day you will have to upgrade. You can continue using 9.2, but if you want to continue upgrading your browsers and other software, you will have to go with OSX.

What model machine do you have?

One thing you should do is trash the preferences for IE.

Also reboot and rebuild the desktop.

Not sure you were hacked. Script kiddies never really concerned themselves with the Mac platform, there wasn't that many and it was harder to exploit than Windows. They like cheap shots and hacking Windows is an easy and big target.

10. This would be better moved to the Mac forum or even the lounge.
So many other GD posts getting shoved downward because of this thread.
