Holy Joe hates Rock n Roll!
A little snippet from a gossip column--I'm also concerned that Al Sharpton likes Michael Jackson. He should have said Donna Summer if he wanted to go three for three with African-Americans!

________________________________________________

No. 3: Piss off the editors of magazines read by people you'd like to have like you. This one goes out to Sen. Joe Lieberman, who alone among the Democratic presidential hopefuls refused to respond to Blender magazine's survey of the candidates' pop-music predilections. Candidates were asked to name their favorite artists and favorite Beatle, as well as whom they'd like to have perform at their inaugural ball. Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (loves Wyclef Jean and George Harrison), Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (likes the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead and John Lennon, and wants Moby at his inaugural ball), North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (admires Bruce Springsteen but would book John Mellencamp for his ball), Carol Mosely Braun (a Keith Jarrett fan), Dennis Kucinich (loves all of the Beatles), Dick Gephardt (digs Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney) and Al Sharpton (big into James Brown, Michael Jackson and the late Sam Cooke) all found the time to respond to Blender. But Lieberman apparently couldn't be bothered. "I don't want to make too much of it," snipped editor Craig Marks. "but I'd venture a guess that Lieberman is the least sympathetic toward the popular culture, and the least sympathetic to rock 'n' roll and pop music." There goes the young-people vote.

1. Time for Joe to see the handwriting on the wall
this just ain't your year. I sympathize with a candidate that stays in the race just further expose his platform, but I don't see enough novelity in his campaign to justify him hanging on. Seems like a waste of oxygen on a crowded stage and a waste of ink on limited newsprint.

Especially EC. Funny, I didn't realize God was a lifeless blues robot with no soul and a penchant for writing exploitative shit songs about their dead son.

11. Still, I bet the kid would have grown up to be a great musician
If he exhibited even 1 percent more soul than his father, he'd have been a vast improvement.

I just don't get why people go so nuts for the guy. Yeah, he can sound just like Buddy Guy, so why not JUST LISTEN TO BUDDY GUY? Why would I want to listen to an insipid Englishman play the blues he heard from old blues records when I can just listen to the old blues records?

Layla was the only good album he ever had anything to do with, and that was arranged by Duane Allman, who was always more fun to listen to than Clapton.

15. Being able to imitate real blues musicians doesn't make you brilliant
Talented, yes. God? Not even close. I could name about fifty guitarists I find more soulful, and who are more influential than Clapton.

Personally, I've always thought Jeff Beck suffered in Clapton's shadow among British blues guitarists. I've always preferred him to Clapton, even at his most self-indulgent.

16. Was brilliant. For a little while. In 1970.
But after that.......nada.

Plus he stole George Harrison's wife. Then dumped her too.

He's an over-rated simpleton.

Quick, name 5 good songs that Clapton wrote when he was in Cream.

Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 03:04 PM by khephra
The Boss is all about growing up/living in an urban environment in his storytelling/songwriting whereas John M is definitely about coming from a rural small-town. I may be an Indiana boy, but I can't get into the Boss. John, however, speaks more to my experiences.

R-O-C-K In The USA is just bad bad. Not to mention that god damned Little Pink Houses song.

Mellencamp basically took Springsteen's urban tales and replaced the buses and subways with tractors and pickup trucks.

I thought he was born in MN and grew up in Arlington though. lol heh. I always joke with people make something up about the Slovaks and Slovenes, you have nothing :) hehe, thats mean lol my dad who is the German and Irish is a Mean Drunk and lol he is mean when he is drunk. The sterotypes are annoying especially when WASPy Bush lol drinks more than the Irish Kennedy, well I dont know if Jack was a drunk or not,

I'll tell you, the first candidate to come out and say they like early British punk rock has my vote. How 'bout some variety, people! Or hell, if they like 80s goth and mope-rock bands, that's cool too. Or if they really dig Sonic Youth. Or the Byrds or any other mid-popularity sixties group (and double bonus points if they like the Sonics, Love, or anyone whose song appeared on Nuggets).

Now I'll have to have Pink Floyd jamming away in full volume from the Rose Garden every Thursday evening.

Inaugaral ball would be Sabbath, followed by Rush, followed by Floyd. (and I just realized they are none of them Americans - oops!). The first White House performance would be Philip Glass, then Steve Reich, then Meredith Monk, and then I'll go from there I know not where.

Oh, and the inaugaration ceremonies will be designed, arranged, and "conducted" by Robert Wilson.

45. But's a conjecture by one person
And it's hardly the most pressing issue we have. I mean, the fact that we'll never see Cheney getting down with his bad self has didn't play a role in getting him that house at the Naval Observatory. A bunch of loud, obnoxious, sign-waving members of the GOP did, as did the butterfly ballots and those weasels named Harris and Bush.

However, to our sorrow and horror, we have seen Bush getting down with his bad self. It was quite the simian performance, I thought. :-)
