Anyone get offended when they realize they 're on someone's ignore list?
Don't you just hate it when you respond to a thread started by one of more popular DUers, who is asking the lounge for our opinion on something.
It is one of those threads that end up getting more than 60 posts in less than an hour and you later realize the person who started the thread responded to every single DUer in the thread -- except you.
And that is no exaggeration.
Then, when you send a non-confrontantional PM to that person -- not even mentioning the fact that you suspect you are on their ignore list -- you never get a response.
I really hate when that happens, but should I be offended?

1. I reckon I'm not on anyones ignore list...
I'm just too sweet of a guy I guess. Only twice have I even been tempted to put someone on mine...

Buddies list keeps growing tho...B-)

(if I ever did make someone's ignore list, I'd be interested in knowing about it...)

3. I don't have a very long ignore list myself.
Like maybe one person. I don't know. I have had my reasons for doing it to people. I have reversed a number of them if I think I might have overreacted. It can be a little offensive, but I guess people have their reasons.

I only have one person on my ignore list right now and that person doesn't post here to speak of.

10. There're other reasons to put people on ignore, besides that they disagree
There's one or two here who feel they have to put part of their message in BIG BOLD type, and it looks like shouting to me. I just got so irritated by it I clicked ignore and never looked back. Well, LOL, there are times in a really good thread that I'm so curious to see what "Ignored" must have said I go to the trouble of taking them off the list.

There's someone who writes long paragraphs with no paragraph breaks, and somebody else whose grammar and punctuation is so funky it renders them unreadable, to me. But disagreement? Jeez, that's just part of debate, and it's interesting to see the back-and-forth.

if the person went public by stating, 'you're on my ignore list.' I've never put someone on 'ignore,' but if I did, I would just do it without resorting to high drama and attempting public humiliation.

11. When I post in someone's thread and am the only one
who doesn't get a response, I just assume they think I'm boring. I'd rather be on ignore than boring.

I only had one person on my ignore list. They attacked me pretty rabidly over a misunderstanding. I probably should have hit alert, but instead I did the ignore thing. I wanted to be absolutely, positively certain that I never, ever made the mistake of posting a response to that individual ever again.

17. I asked about the ignore list in ATA...
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 03:49 PM by IMModerate
and I didn't get a response, so I might be on their ignore list. I wanted to know how to find out whose ignore list(s) I might be on.

Then Jimmy Jazz PMed me, (interesting because I thought I might be on her ignore list,) to tell me to try PMing anybody whose ignore list I thought I might be on, and I would get a display that said I was on their ignore list. I didn't try that because if I wasn't on someone's ignore list, I wouldn't want them to think that I thought I was on their ignore list.

22. I read skinner say in ATA once that you would not get a dsplay
informing you that you are on they're ignore list. You just won't a response. The point is for that person never to know they're on the ignore list.

Does that apply to PMs? Seems you'd want to know if you're on their ignore list, or they're just ignoring you.

31. You shouldn't be able to PM them at ALL if they have you on ignore.
A message will come up saying this person is not receiving messages or something or other. And that means either they have you on ignore or they have disabled their PM feature altogether. But if the little PM icon shows up on their posts, then they haven't disabled it altogether. Just for you.

So that's how you can find out. I'm off to find out if the one I think is ignoring me really is.

18. It is not paranoia
they really are out to get me.

How do you know who the popular posters are? Other than the obvious fact that I am not one of them.

I do not try to be popular, although I try to be thoughtful and funny, but many times I feel the need to weigh in when another poster has been insufficiently thoughtful or compassionate. In fact, that is probably most of my "serious" posting. What is the point of posting just to say "ditto" or "amen"?

I am spastic... am never steadily on DU, so sometimes I come back to lots of replies, and have no time to get to them all.

That is, I WANT to reply to everyone, but I don't have the attention span (or DSL anymore, dammit) to do so.

I don't want anyone to feel bad, and it is always okay to PM me if curious.

Any time I've found out I was on ignore was not through my own ability to figure it out but because I was told.

Let alone such a narrow demographic, heavily moderated one such as this.

I never understood the ignore feature. Never mind the willfully close minded aspect of it, isn't it something everyone is capable of without automation?

28. If you're on their ignore list, I don't think you can send them a PM,
can you?

In which case, they are ignoring you the old-fashioned way.

I have been placed on at least one ignore list, but it was an accident. Still, when I found out, yeah, I was baffled and upset. To the point that I had OTHER DUers PM the person, LOL!

(Lesson: Don't put me on ignore, I'll get other people to hound you! Just kidding!)

Anyway it turned out to be all a big misunderstanding anyway. But I know the feeling.

Oh and I think there is one DUer right now who has me on ignore, but I have no proof of that. Just that they literally NEVER respond to me.

45. I'd probably be a bit butt hurt at first....
But I generally get over myself pretty quickly. I have always been the type of person who people either like or dislike,a take it or leave it kind of girl. I see it this way, if they have put me on ignore it was most likely in their best interest and I won't be bothering them again. I haven't used it here yet, but have been tempted a few times. When I usually feel the urge, I just keep on scrolling...opinions are truly like, well you know, we all have them, like it or not. I can say this though, I could name quite a few people IRL I really wish I had the ignore option for! Don't let them get to you, whoever it may be, they aren't worth it.

Ignore lists can be a good thing; especially if two or more DUers have a big problem with each other - this can avoid nasty and personal flame wars. It's sometimes best to leave things alone.
