but I can offer you something that always seems to attract stalkers when I do it in, ahem, certain places:

Post a nonemotional, nonconfrontational, but logical rebuttal to an attractive, cherished, but utterly unfounded belief that many people have. Back up your position with facts when challenged.

Actually, I guess this might be a good way to start a flamewar, but I've stumbled on a tactic that I guess is what turns potentional flamers into mere stalkers: When they really, really want to have a fight with you, refuse to give them one.

It's astonishing how long they'll keep on posting "what about THIS! Huh? Huh? C'mon, buddy whatta you got to say about that!? Well? Huh?" types of messages before they understand that you're not going to give them what they want.

Fortunately, DU has a large percentage of good folks who will actually consider a point of view that might not necessarily match their preconieved notions; so yakking back and forth with them makes it easier to disregard the stalkers.

Just an observation. I grow weary, and am off to the magic land of Finlandia, thence to bed.
