Poll question: When are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day?
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 09:43 PM by PittPoliSci
Just seeing when everyone is going to be doing their thing for my favorite holiday (in March). It's going to be a week long celebration of alcohol and music for me.

5. You have a great saint's day for your birthday!

I have John the Baptist, a heavy hitter but no parties at all. . . I guess because no ones wants to have a party with belly dancers and beheadings.

Go figure.

P.S. I hear they think green beer is a crazy idea in Ireland. I don't drink it green, even though I'm 1/4 Irish. I do wear green and I'm looking forward to going to a party and drinking beer.

4. Actually, listening to Altan just now if that counts. Corned beef dinner
planned for the 17th in the great American tradition.

(Mind you my dad's family is Orange Irish, but my mother's side is Russian Catholic, so I just wear green with a bit of orange and white and figure I am covered.)

9. As luck has it
I will have just left London and will be in Paris on St. Paddy's day. Really doubt that they celebrate it there, but since I will be with a travel group comprised of Americans, I bet at least some of us will be wearing green. P.S. Thanks for the reminder, I will pack an appropriate green top to wear that day.

11. I don't celebrate 'cause of the religion thing
Celebrating being Irish is ok with me, but not celebrating a saint who helped rid a country of "paganism" which is my understanding of what he did. Asbestos undies on, flame away or enlighten me if this information is wrong, if you want.

13. If you don't celebrate any holidays with religious connotations
what holidays do you celebrate?

14. I do celebrate some religious connotationed holidays
I just have a bug in my ear (I hesitate to mention bee in my bonnet) about StPaddy's because of his imposing his outside religion on people with their own religion. Goes along with the reason I don't celebrate Colombus Day is because, even though he didn't make it to N.America, I won't celebrate the European invasion of the new world. I hate evangelicalisingmentness.

15. He didn't impose anything.
One man is not an imposition. He was an evangelist, true. But he did little more than wander up and down Ireland preaching. He didn't force anybody to convert--he just gave them a new choice, and they went with his version of things.
