3. Barney Miller: Second only to MASH

Wojo, Harris, Dietrich, Yamana, Fish and a jail cell full of loonies ... this sitcom had fantastic character development, truly funny writing, and a kind of mature elegance and sensitivity to real life issues ...

with the possible exception of MASH, Barney Miller was the best sitcom ever on TV ...

5. one of the best episodes

there was an episode where Wojo witnessed a robbery and had a vague recollection that one of the robbers called out the other robber's name ... they brought in a hypnotist to help him recall the details ...

the hypnotist kept going over the details with the hypnotized Wojo, but everytime he got to the point where the robber yelled out to his partner, all Wojo could remember was "Hey, look at behind you" and then mentioned the other robber's name ... the hypnotist worked with him over and over and over and he just couldn't remember what was said after "Hey, look out behind you ..."

Finally, right near the end of the show, Wojo smiled and said, "i've got it ... i remember ... the guy said, "Look at behind you; he's a cop" ... of course that didn't help at all ...

but then Wojo started talking about his co-workers ... he told a story about how he had bought a really silly tie for Barney when he was out West ... it was one of those rope ties that had a sort of cowboy clasp that slides up the rope ... he said it was meant to be a gag gift but Barney actually wore the thing ... anyway, hard to believe i remembered all that ...
