Poll question: Best Disaster Movie
Disaster Movies! As a kid, I couldn't get enough of them.

While the heyday of these films was the 1970's, Hollywood still views these movies as big moneymakers.

Note the recent success of such films as "Armageddon," "The Core," and "The Day After Tomorrow."

5. "The Day After" (ABC Movie of the Week, 1983). Hands down.
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 07:21 AM by no_hypocrisy
It was the most graphic depiction of a nuclear crisis to date, set in the Midwest to emphasize the fact that the missiles could land anywhere. Indeed, The Day After provides numerous haunting images, setting up a cast of characters from all walks of life and putting them right in the middle of a kind of hell on earth.

6. I live in the area where that is supposed to happen.
I know many people who still refuse to watch it to this day.

7. China Syndrome.
I enjoy disaster flicks, but this was actually well-done for a movie in general.

11. Does anyone remember how they hyped "Earthquake in "Sensurround"
when the movie came out? I was all excited and begged my older brother to take me. It was a huge disappointment because I was expecting to be thrown out of my seat and experience a real California earthquake, but it was just kind of loud.
