Call me a dreamer but I have two views on this. If their is no greater power like a God I say no. If their is a greater power like a God I say absolutely. Where do I actually stand? Right down the middle. Thomas Jefferson actually leaned toward a belief that hidden inside the abstract structure of the Universe (what we now know as the molecular level) their was unlimited possibility's for discovery, invention, scientific progress and even moral perfection within a society. Many Deists believed that because the Universe was an expression of God it was potentially perfect and all mankind had to do was discover how to unlock the vast amount of knowledge that existed withing every vibrating atom. They saw knowledge as light and ignorance as darkness. Well I don't know if they knew of atoms then but you get the idea.
So if the whole entire world was Enlightened by science, free thought and reason and not stifled by religious dogma and ignorance could a World Utopia be possible? An end to world hunger, the beginning of world peace, the end of disease, the end of birth defects and scientific discoveries beyond the imagination? You know things like cell phones, TV, going to the moon and super fast computers that would link up thousands of like minded liberal thinkers from all over the world to discuss just such a thing instantly! Not even Jefferson had the foresight to imagine such things yet today the are as real as an apple tree and who knows what is in our future. So then did Men like Jefferson understand the Universe better than we do and is such a world Utopia possible? Before you say no remember that their are only optimists who get their heads on coins.
