I would so love to take flying lessons someday.
Anyone else want to do this?

If I do, and graduate, will I be an official pilotess?

2. It does sound fun.
But I did those already... I wanna take latin dance classes... tango, samba, etc.

So much I want to do... so little time!

3. If I could afford it, I'd be flying every day
I took a few lessons about 15 years ago. It was really fun. Most people quit because it's too expensive. I fly this plane instead..

It's expensive too, but nowhere near the real thing.

4. Oh yes, there's the cost factor.
Hadn't considered that... but still a nice thought. :)

I'd be so afraid to break that thing... it's so pretty!

10. My introductory lesson was about $75
You get some basic ground training and a 30 minute flight in a Cessna. The law says you can't fly, but the instructor will let you have the controls for awhile as enticement. It's well worth it even if you don't take another lesson. It's just something fun to do some random evening.

As for the model RC plane.. I used to be afraid of breaking it, but not any more.. As I get more skilled all I want is faster and more nimble models.. It's the most addictive hobby in the world, and it's also turning out to be very expensive. I was very happy to discover that it's also quite the social hobby. Everyone at the park comes up to ask questions (while I'm concentrating on flying). I now tend to land when people are approaching for conversation.

12. I have always wanted to be a pilot as well
much safer to do it on the PC, Flight Sim.

R/C is not quite the same as real flying, but quite a rush and not as dangerous as a cessna.

I have flown in small (single prop) aircraft on many occasion as a 'copilot' of sorts. Not a fun ride in rough weather.

On further consideration, I would love to get my pilot's license, but cant afford it.

13. Actually every real pilot I've talked to says that R/C is much harder
than flying a real plane. It has something to do with the 3rd person vs. 1st person perspective. Makes sense, although the reversed control effect in RC becomes second nature after a dozen or so flights. Thank gawd for the RC simulator! I put in about 6 solid hours before I started flying for real. It lowered the stress level by a huge amount.

14. I have a pilot's license and I would say flying a computer is much harder
You just don't see things on a computer the same way.

5. It's horribly expensive
I've often wish could fly again but lessons the first time out nearly brole me - keeping up would be impossible. And, its addictive, the more you fly, the more you want to...

But, hey, if wealth isn't an issue go for it, it is an experience like no other. Your destiny, totally in your hands, your heart in your throat, all with a visual perspective that is unbelievable (Look, I can see my house!).

11. I think the dancing lessons are closer to reality, actually.
But flying would be so much more fun, I think. :)

15. Having done it, it is SO worth it...
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 02:21 PM by Debbi801
I've let my Med. lapse, unfortunately and I haven't done any flying as pilot in command for over 12 years. But, it is definitely the accomplishment I am most proud of after my kids. :)

I'm not sure where you're located, but where I am, there are smaller outfits (still very realiable) that cost a lot less than taking lessons at a big or major airport. Just something to think about. Here, there are little airports everywhere, with plenty of them providing lessons.

Good luck!
