Michael Jackson owns the media whores' hearts
I'm watching this crap fest on CNN just to see how low they've sunk. It's the most pathetic display I've ever seen. I really don't know what to say. It's just sad.

1. I love it when they put down how the media covers this story as if
as if they aren't the media.

The judge just issued a warrant for MJ's arrest - it's about time.

The judge in the child molestation trial of Michael Jackson issued a warrant for the entertainer's arrest today when Mr. Jackson did not show up for the trial's morning session.

Judge Rodney S. Melville, who had warned Mr. Jackson months ago that he would not tolerate tardiness, also said he would revoke the singer's $3 million bail if he did not show up by 9:35 a.m. Pacific time, an hour later than proceedings were to begin.

3. Judge Melville had better keep his cool
Jackson is back in the hospital.

Within a few hours, several million people will be saying that they heard it from God Himself that Jacko is faking it. But if Jacko isn't faking it, Melville buys himself a whole lot of trouble. Same for the Jackson-is-Guilty contingent.

Either way, I despair when I consider that the entire system of justice has turned into a game. And a particularly lurid one at that.

5. No
Judge Melville is entirely within his rights.

He's not stupid. He wouldn't be issuing a warrant if he knew Jacko was in the hospital. Therefore, nobody on Jacko's (extensive) staff and/or defense team thought it was their job to inform the court.

How stupid must they be?

Is Jacko just begging to be locked up for the rest of his life? It'd suit him right.

6. Within his rights, not necessarily his right mind
Melville isn't stupid -- he's a hothead, and he's proven it on many occasions.

We also don't now what happened this morning except that Jackson took sick and Melville "pounded on the table".

In the event that Jackson is found guilty, Melville's conduct could be the basis of an appeal and possibly subsequent action against the state. The Judge and the DA mean to get Jackson, and Jackson isn't about to go down without a fight.

7. If you are ordered to appear in court & you fail to appear
a bench warrant will be issued for your arrest, period.
If this happens to us mere mortals it should happen to Michael Jackson.

9. Period?
The period is typically 24 hours ... often it is more. Of course, that is my observation in my neck of the woods, which is permissive libbrul suburban Philadelphia.

The judge has considerable latitude, and typical practice is to listen to the explanation before polishing the blade on the guillotine.

Judge Melville has a very short fuse, which could easily backfire, no matter what the verdict may eventually be.

If Jacko is f*cking around with him, yeah, bring the hammer down. But Melville has always had a short fuse, and this is just the latest occasion where he has lost his composure while in his robes.

11. I work in legal field & when someone fails to appear
the bench warrant is issued right away. I will admit sometimes the paperwork can sometimes take a day or so, but the judge orders it at the time.

14. That's no surprise
In most of the cases I've heard of, the "delay" is informal and allows the attorney to make an effort to contact the client. This also gives the court an extra measure of unassailability. Paperwork probably is drawn up "just in case", then destroyed if the person appears with an excuse that satisfies the judge.

The Jackson case, being high-profile, will not fit most of our normal expectations. Yeah, he's rich, which usually helps get a guilty defendant off, but he's high-profile, and the prosecutor will have his career guaranteed if he "makes his bones" with Jacko.

Now I just woke up ... time to check today's news and see what the bastards actually did! :)
