Rolling Stone Hunter S. Thompson edition

A photo supplied by Rolling Stone shows the cover of Rolling Stone's new issue, that pays tribute to Hunter S. Thompson, whose name resided on the magazine's masthead for 35 years. In 31 pages,Editor-in Chief Jann S. Wenner, Johnny Depp (news), Jack Nicholson, Pat Buchanan (news - web sites) and many others eulogize the gonzo journalist who committed suicide at the age of 67 on Feb. 20 at his Aspen, Colo. home.(AP Photo/Rolling Stone)

2. Very cool
I also urge HST fans to check out the link below. It's for a website advertising a really great documentary, "Breakfast with Hunter."

I mentioned this site in a HST post a few days ago, so forgive me if it seems like I'm a shill for the movie. I just happened to see it about a week before he died and was blown away by it. It made me feel like I knew the man.

3. It's very bizarre indeed to think that the Doc was buddies
with Pat Buchanan. During the height of the Watergate scandal, they even hung out at the Watergate swimming pool.

5. You know, HST was actually at the Watergate during the break-in
I've been re-reading some of his stuff in the wake and came across that little tidbit.

7. Call me crazy but the thought hit me last week....
Hunter=Deep Throat?

Who knows maybe Thompson was CIA or something. He managed to write articles about massive drug use (and posession) without ever being stopped or arrested-as far as I know.

Woodward said that Deep Throat was "ill" and no one connected the dots to anyone as far as I know (how many possible Deep Throats could be ill right now?).

8. It wouldn't surprise me that much, honestly.
I doubt he was CIA, though.

The big question would be where did he come by his information. He was very good friends with Pat Buchanan...

6. Actually, I can understand his familiarity with Buchanan.
Buchanan is exactly who he pretends to be. Yeah, he's an isolationist and a racist, but he's at least up front with that shit. And he is a "real" conservative as well, who doesn't mind lashing out at people on the right if he thinks they are full of shit. I think Thompson liked that, even if he disagreed with the man's thought proces.

10. I think HST mentioned that he liked Buchanan
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 03:01 PM by elperromagico
because Buchanan was honest.

Still, the image of Doc and Pat sitting by the Watergate pool drinking beers and shootin' the breeze is an image to conjure with.
