Best Radio Experience
Last year, I was working late, real late on a aSaturday night. I had thelocal college station on the radio and the guy, out of the blue, put's on this tape of the Bowie Concert I went to back in 1972, in Cleveland.

Bowie had just hit and Cleveland went absolutley crazy for him. WMMS brought him here right after his first stop in NYC. He sold out two nights and the rest is history.....

Anyway, I about fell of my chair, I couldn't believe he put on Starman......

1. When I heard my band on the radio
It was almost as good as seeing my band's video on TV.

2. WMMS!
Oh yeah, I was a kid at that time, but remember MMS fondly: Kid Leo, Denny Sanders, BLF Bash playing "Maggot Brain" every morning at 2am..

4. Yep..
I worked at The Statler Downtown in the early 80's where MMS had it's operations; by the time I moved away MMS was a shadow of itself....

M105 was damn good for a few years around that time; they coulda been a contender..

6. Lin Brehmer as "The Rev" On WQBK Albany, Early 1980s
Highlights:

any "Hump Day Unusual Moment."

Hearing Lin "talk up" the intro to Journey's "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" and then continuing to "walk over" the vocals, throughout the entire song, right up to the final "na na na na na ..."

He's on WXRT in Chicago now, last I knew.

7. A hot summer's day
Laying in the sun in the garden, a gin and tonic in hand with 'Test Match Special' playing (ideally England thrashing Australia, but that's a very rare event).

The B.B.C. give an entire radio station over to covering 5-day international cricket matches. The gentle pace in which a pigeon wandering around the out-field, or a cake sent in by a fan seems to be of more importance than the match being played. Ah the epitome of England.

8. CBC's "Nightfall" or BBC's World Service
When I was young, I just happened upon an airing of CBC's "Nightfall" on the local PBS station, and got hooked - really frightening, for a kid.

Otherwise, as a student in Paris, I missed hearing English, and got myself a little transistor radio and tuned in to BBC's World Service to keep me company. Love that little "This Is London" ditty they play at the top of the hour...

12. John Lennon -DJ on KSAN circa 1974
During his "lost year" Lennon DJ on a couple of radio stations around the country. On KSAN in san fransisco he dj'd for a couple of hours, played his favorite records and took some phone calls.

He was one of the few dj's I've ever heard who told interesting stories. He had recently met Doc Pomus for the first time and was really humbled by the experience.
