LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Three anonymous donors have contributed $3 million to a campaign to raise money to convince UPN and Paramount TV to bring "Star Trek: Enterprise" back for a fifth season.
The anonymous investors are apparently in the commercial space flight industry and in a statement to TrekUnited.com, they argue that at least half of the entrepreneurs in their business have been inspired by the "Star Trek" franchise and that in addition to loving their favorite show, they're also capable of writing big checks. The statement urges Paramount to look beyond the 2.88 million people who watch "Enterprise" (making it a robust No. 150 on Nielsen's season-to-date ratings list) at the big picture.
"Now, canceling the series so bluntly, for the sake of just ratings, tells very much about the kind of thinking going on inside Paramount," they declare. "If we thought the same way, Paul Allen would have never funded the SpaceShipOne program. Sir Richard Branson would never have funded Virgin Galactic and Space Adventures would never have put two space tourists aboard the International Space Station. Instead, we would all be at home watching 'Survivor' or some other reality TV show."
Although the investors stop short of saying why "Enterprise" in particular deserves to be salvaged (beyond praising the show's previously maligned theme song), they suggest it's the principle of the thing

They should really just let this one go and try again with a new series, imho.
