2. Sounds funny...
...I also read a favorable review of this on SALON.

I was a fan of Divine's work in John Waters' films, so if this is comparable the way the Wolcott says, I wish I could see it.

Don't have SHOWTIME, though.

21. Just finished watching your link...
...thanks, I wouldn't have gotten to see it otherwise. I'm having a busy day, so this was a nice way to spend the lunch break.

It was pretty funny. I especially liked the black woman in the soul food restaurant (she reminded me of some of the funny and dear-to-me women I work with) and how "the clapper" kept turning the lamp on and off when the guy Kirstie Alley scored with would playfully slap her rump.

Still not ordering SHOWTIME, though. :)

6. It was funny
I'm usually not big on anything like this kind of humor. I like laughing with characters, not at them. They can poke fun at others and I'm okay with it, but I hate laughing at characters that I sympathize with. For example, Larry David's HBO show, "Curb Your Enthusiasm", while brilliantly funny, makes me uncomfortable. "Fat Actress", on the other hand, didn't so much. It made me root for Kirstie Alley to stand up and show everyone that she's not over. Granted, this was just one episode, and the show could degenerate into mocking fat jokes exclusively, but the episode I saw made me laugh, and seemed to hint that she'd eventually triumph.

That said, I can see why some folks might take offense. Nothing wrong with some controversy now and then. ;)

10. Well said
I thought it was great. Turned me into a Kirstie Alley fan. I was surprised how well it was done.

11. I Thought It Was The Worst Show I Ever Saw
And based on the synopsis of Episode 2 that someone provided the other day on a now-locked thread, it's gonna go downhill from the premier episode.

16. Wayne -- you really need to quit it
we all know your feelings about this show, but now you're acting like a Republican about it (don't hit me, please, but this must be said).

Just because you don't like it, you want to nuke it and/or not acknowledge the fact that others like it.

20. This thread wasn't locked
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x2785474

the only reason the first one was locked was because of all of the grenades launched in there. I also saw a couple torpedos.

It appears that there are several people who not only enjoy the show, but also want to discuss it.

why do you hate America?

I just hate people advancing negative stereotypes. And that's all "Fat Actress" is, IMHO.

with clips.

Funny clips.

Funny Kirstie.

Showtime is pushing this-- expect to see more of her on the interview circuit.

9. I expected better of her
I turned the show off after about 15 minutes. I went in really trying to like it but it just seemed stupid and almost pathetic. Sorry Kirstie ....It just wasn't funny.

12. Amazing what passes for entertainment in this country.
Poorly written, poorly acted and shop-worn. It's like the Ana Nicole show but without the drugs...yet.

13. The next thread on Wolcott's site is about Jimmy Carter
Wolcott reviews a book about how the Carter Presidency was screwed by the inside the beltway establishment(including Dems). Carter was an outsider, as was Clinton. I think insider/outsider is the key to life inside the beltway, a sort of Cokie Roberts syndrome. According to the reviewed book, even Dem Icons screwed Carter, then turned around and lent helping hands to Raygun.

24. Still laughing...
As someone who's gone (like Kirstie) from thin to FAT I thought it was just hilarious. And no I am NOT a jolly fat person. I HATE that I'm overweight and struggle with it daily.

And like Kirstie, the time has come to stop making excuses and STOP being fat. I hit the gym 5 days a week and am really watching my calories. And now I'm watching Kirstie because she's an inspiration (accepting of herself, willing to do something about it, and able to laugh at herself along the way).

...the laughs I get out of watching it, and the further laughs I get out of watching some people whine about it on the internet...
