55. AGAIN WITH THE "JUST!"
Why diminunize what we've shared together? Why belittle those nights we spent by the Seine, sipping Pinot Noir and laughing over a shared copy of the "New Yorker?" Those rainy days of tears and scotch? The late nights, twisted on Scotchguard and huffed antifreeze, robbing gas stations together?

Does it not mean anything to you anymore?!

Screw this, I'm gonna go watch "For the Boys" and have a good cry.

And darn it, "Empty Nest" is on. I can't miss an episode, even in times of dire emotional stress like our recent painful break up.

57. A very weird 5' 8"
I say a weird 5'8" because I have women who are much shorter than I am telling me that they are 5'8". I can see over them. They insist they are 5'8" but I know I am 5'8" because I go home and measure. Okay, I don't go home and measure because when I was growing up my family was very height-aware. All of my brothers are over 6' tall. The shortest is 6'2" and the tallest is 6'9" (almost 6'10") so you can believe they were measuring all the time.

The first "hurdle" for my younger brothers was to be taller than my sister (she's 5'7 1/4"). Then it was poor mom at 5'7 1/2" I was the last mark they had to pass. All the fricking time I was made to stand back to back with my brothers or get remeasured on the kitchen wall until the youngest brother passed me in height (that day occurred on Thanksgiving, 1979). Then it became some sick obsession (a "sick Cynthia thing" for all you "Lebowski" fans) between them and dad (6'1") and then just each other.

One of the longest enduring fights between my parents was the one over who was responsible for my brothers' height. My dad claimed it. He was the tallest of in his family and his mom remembered relatives she had who were almost 7 feet tall. My mom said it came from her side of the family and she pointed to her brother who was 6'2" and his sons (from 6'3" to 6'7"). They could go on for days at a time.

BTW, I can be up to 5' 8 5/8" if I stretch my neck but I prefer to slouch.

Anyway, I think a lot of people lie about their heights. Because I know there are an awful lot of women who are NOT 5'8" but claim to be.

Oh yeah. I'm 5'8". Did I mention that? :+

Whew. That's one less therapy session for me.

77. Almost 6'10"
I always tell people not to make fun of his height because he's the baby. Well, okay, but he is the youngest of my brothers. He was 9 when he passed me in height. I was 18, just four months shy of 19, when his pencil mark on the wall was ever so slightly higher than mine. He danced and danced. He was so happy. When I went home for Winter Break a month later he was a full inch taller than I was. He hit his growth spurt when he was 18, shot up five inches in two months. Then his growth slowed and he stopped at 6'9 15/16" by his measure, slightly over 6'9 3/4" by one of our other brothers. All I know is I need to redirect the shower head if he takes one before me.

Now he stoops slightly because he's been hit by ceiling fans so many times and doorways aren't always tall enough that he's almost always in defense mode.

69. 6'4"
It is a gruesome story how I came to be tall. I was once a little boy, and then I grew some.

There is a club for tall people, of which I am a member. The club has its web site at

http://www.tall.org/

and has chapters in a number of major cities. The minimum height requirements are 6'2" for men, and 5'10" for women.

98. my parents met through that club....
My dad was 6'2" and my mom is 5'11". My dad's brother is 6'10". It was actually my uncle that my mom met and dated first. I keep thanking her to this day for picking the right brother in the end! (will not go into it, but let's just say, my uncle might have money, but he's a controlling, selfish jerk).

Everyone in my family is tall. My brother is 6'6". My sisters are 5'11", 6', and 6'1. I'm now the shortest at 5'10". My sons are 6'2" and 6". And it looks like my neice, who is 3 years old, is going to be quite tall (my brother's daughter, of course).

I was tall at one point in my life. I've been this height since I was 11 or 12. Mmmmm...that's about the time I tried smoking. I broke out in hives. I wonder if they're related.

Actually, the last man I was interested in was a whopping 6'5", but my ex is only 5'8" and I've dated anywhere from 5'5" on up. I tend to like tall, but like a lot of the physical stuff, it's a nonessential factor.

94. 5'10... 6'2" if I wear my fave shoes!
Which, obviously, I don't get to wear that much (except for photo shoots).

I've been this height since I was 11 years old. Used to tower over everyone in my class for years. I was the second-tallest girl in my high school (there was one girl who was 6'2").

Seems a lot of younger women are taller these days... I see many who are my height or taller when I am out.

Peace,
Bella
