Poll question: Did your school have a PTA or a PTO?
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 06:02 PM by undisclosedlocation
I graduated high school in '80. At that time, at least in these parts, only parochial schools had PTOs; now it seems everybody does. You'd think that if this was Jeannie C. Riley's fault, the change would have happened in the late '60s, but I guess Barbara Eden's tv series based on the song might have had some effect. Or maybe there was some incredible embezzling scandal in the national PTA that I just never heard about. Anybody have any ideas?

Edit: spelling

2. When I started school,
it was PTA. Somewhere in the middle, it became PTO.

I have seen many tractors advertised with PTO as a selling point.

3. Being Somewhat of a Gearhead...
PTO will always mean 'power take-off' to me.

9. So instead of spaghetti suppers it was bank heists?
Well that's one way to pay for the chorus' field trip to Disneyland!

12. So much fun!
Out school motto was "death to the fascist insect that preys upon the lives of the people".

Ahhhh. The carefree days as a child.

7. They have one at my stepson's school.
The snotty bastards meet on Thursday's at 9:00 a.m. I guess it never occurred to them that not all parents are well off and have a stay-at-home parent who can make those meetings.

8. From what I understand, they are different in goals.
PTA is more powerful: allows/expects parental input/help/cooperation with the teachers,
while a PTO is basically a fundraising vehicle, with the parents not having any say-so in the school.
