3. Castle in the Sky first, then Nausicaa
Did you know Castle in the Sky is actually Laputa, but they changed the name because it translates to a bad word? I love Miyazaki movies. Have you seen Grave of the Fireflies? I think this is one of the saddest movies made, very powerful and moving and cryey.

5. His movies span a wide range of types and topics
He is quite a director/illustrator/writer/etcer. His movies range from the simplistic to the complex, ones good for kids to ones made for adults. I really like him. He has a couple packages of 7-15 movie combinations, can find them on ebay for moderate prices. I much prefer the subtitled over the dubbed as the dubbed seem dumbed down.

7. That explains it. At least the princess doesn't always get carried off
by the handsome prince. You have to be in a mood for Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke is one of the WTf is going on ones with really bad dubbing (they change one person into the disneyish annoying sidekick, bah). Then there is Pom Poko about forest animals trying to protect their forest against development, big balls, changing into humanoid beings from forest racoon thingies back and forth (how do you view yourself, mystical weird stuff).

8. his movies are beautifull
and make me think of Yoshitaka Amano's Art as well, thier whimsical and beautifull, and they keep thier whimsy and beauty even when they are dark, foreboding, evil.

14. Naussica
If you've never seen it.

I think Spirited Away is more gorgeous, but Naussica is just insanely good. How did you fall asleep during Spirited Away?

None will be the same as seeing them on the big screen, though. And the Disney dub of Laputa (Castle in the Sky) is lacking. There's a Carl Macek dub on the Japanese version, which is much better (IMO) and it keeps the original electronic score.

That said, I just ordered the Disney versions of Spirited Away, Princess M., and Naussica too!
