As some of you know, I lost my driving job on Wednesday, 2/23. Since then, however, an opportunity tailor-made for my skills has dropped into my lap! The details are here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=2722721Since I posted that thread, I've had several phone conversations with Doug, who has taken me on as, for the time being, his webmaster. For every 100 titles I correct or enter into the site, Doug will pay me $75. Between correcting all the errors currently on Doug's site, and subsequently entering the 9,000 (that's right, 9,000!) titles not yet listed, we figure I'll be doing about $7,000 worth of work for Doug.
Here's the link to Doug's website as it looks right now. As you'll see, there are hundreds of titles with no track listings or cover-art pictures. My first order of business will be to take care of that problem:
http://www.disconecd.comDoug also has decided to become a distributor, which will mean additional work opportunities for me and possibly for a few other people. After all, the guy from whom Doug is taking over that company had seven employees himself. Considering that a couple of my pals (who share my passion for music) are also out of work, I may be able to eventually secure employment for them, as well!
To hedge my bets, I also have applied for Unemployment but may not qualify due to the conditions under which I lost my driving job. On March 15th, I have to participate in a hearing by telephone.
Also, between the I.R.S. and the tax people in Connecticut, I have close to $900 coming back this year. And I've received several e-mail inquiries from folks who are interested in my homemade CD comps (

In summary: losing that driving job may not have been such a bad thing after all--particularly since Connecticut has had two major snowstorms *and* a snap of bitterly cold weather subsequent to my being canned. And I didn't have to work outside in any of it! :bounce:
