*sigh* my cat is sick and I need help
My cat Lily,3 years old, has been throwing up all morning and we found out that it's been the grass that she chews on. Ours gets sprayed with all those chemicals periodically by one of those companies that works especially for lawns. So I'm worried that it's not just the plants that's making her ill, but all those filthy toxins. She's quite tired now and sort of just sits there and stuff. So do any of you guys with kitties know any good remedies for my little one's tummy? Thanks you guys in advance.

3. take her to a vet or clinic now
And keep her inside-the outside is dangerous to woogies anymore, between toxins and coyotes and such. I'm praying to Bast for both of you!!!!!!!!

4. call the vet right away!
I'm on several organic gardening lists and I can tell you that we get a couple new people a week signing up to learn organic practices because their pets have been harmed or killed by these chemicals. You can try--but it won't do much good--to get the truth out of the chemical company but they generally obfuscate and lie about what's in their sprays.

Remember, they are little and the chemicals can have quite an impact on their systems. Call the vet!

10. apparently a little raw honey will get her blood sugar up
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 01:46 PM by phoebe
plenty of fluid and a wee bit of yogurt.

Get to vet!

(reference to honey - "Keep your cat healthy the Natural way" by Pat Lazarus - page 117
(recommended for 1/2 starved strays - but probably can't hurt yrs. until you get it to vet) Good luck - let us know

PS sign of dehydration - pull up hair and skin at back of neck, if doesn't immediately spring back to body, cat is dehydrated

6. Maybe a quarter tablet of Pepto
Works for my dog.
Also you might consider an indoor garden of delicious kitty edibles, like catnip and vet-approved grasses.
I'd still recommend a vet visit to make sure she's not seriously poisoned.

15. MY BAD, MY BAD -- DEFINITE NO-NO!
So sorry, really... I spoke before doing any research on the topic and I made a bad assumption.

Pepto okay for dogs (based on vet advice and experience), NOT okay for cats.

7. Do you know what chemicals?
Most cities have a poison control center just for pets that you can call (look in your yellow pages). If you have one in your city, let them know what was sprayed on your grass and they can tell you what to do to help your little one. I sure hope she feels better. Poor little thing.

8. had the same thing w/mine
Just kept him inside with plenty of fresh water and food, and he basically slept it off.

BUT, if she goes in to the dry heaves where she keeps gakking for no reason, then you have to bring her in for an IV, she may become dehydrated. Have had to deal with that too.

Keep an eye on her.

9. So sorry.
She needs to see a vet pronto. Her throwing up (and the chemicals flowing through her system) is dehydrating her. This is very serious and should be dealt with by a professional. Good luck and please report what the vet has to say.

13. Buy some of that indoor grass from a pet store
But take her to the vet first. Sebastian Cattbutt would go kitty nuts if he did not have good grass to chew on.

14. poor boo kitty
I don't have any additional advice since the other DUers have provided such great response but if it were ME I would DEFINITELY be calling the company spraying poison all over the place and demanding to know a) what they are spraying and b) that they cease and desist until they begin using an approved organic method.
Jeesh. They're not content to poison us slowly with the food and water anymore, they have to go down the street aggressively spewing toxins everywhere.
Hope Lily is ok.

17. Don't delay
If the toxin is still in her stomach, they can deactivate it with activated charcoal. Once it's passed into the intestines and bloodstream, that's no longer effective. I lost two cats to antifreeze poisoning because I didn't get them in to the vet quick enough. There's no time to waste.
