1. Where's THE FUNKY WORM by the Ohio Players?
I still remember when that was banned in 1973!

8. Some mighty fine choices on your poll, wxmike.
It was hard to choose a favorite, but went with Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle," on the strength of Murray Muehliessen's (sp.?) terrific guitar work.

I think Muehlissen's guitar talent plus Cashman & West's production turned a lot of Jim Croce songs from ordinary songs into memorable classics.

10. Had to go w/ Gladys Knight...
That's a great song and she has a wonderful voice.

I'd love to find a bittorrent or link for that song...wink, wink. :)

12. "People all over the world, join hands. On the love train. Love train."
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 09:51 PM by notmyprez
Several great songs on that list, but "Love Train" is the one I remember really getting into that year. I graduated from high school in 1973, and that year I was in a special experimental "metropolitan education" program in which 15 kids from my school joined together with 15 kids from an inner city school to study the city. It was the best learning and the best time I had in high school. Most of the city kids were black, and none of those from my school were, and we all ended up listening to the soul music of the day. "Love Train" was one of the tunes. (Of course, the song has a great sentiment as well.) There's a special place in my heart for the soul music of 1973, which I still remember very well.
