1. This Californian
has never heard of Caribou, but frappucinos at Starbucks are amazing.

(Hiding under the desk waiting for flames from the anti-starbucks crowd.)

17. Maybe, but
My coworkers and I used to have the best time drawing add on genitalia and such to the caribou logo, then showing them to each other covertly, during long boring meetings.

I guess that is not what you mean by professional though is it?

8. As an "MNDEM," you may not know that Caribou is not a
nationwide brand.

It originated in the Twin Cities, as did Dunn Brothers', and as a result, this is one of the few areas in the country where Starbuck's is NOT #1.

Personally, I like Caribou, but I frequent Dunn Brothers' because their stores offer free wireless Internet. I like Caribou's pastries better, though, and I usually know the answers to their trivia questions.

Now if only we could get Peet's Coffee in Minneapolis...

12. Thanks for the update.
Just in case you didn't know it. Caribou has now gone wireless as well. I have tried Dunn Brothers as well. It is good coffee, however it is hard to find them. I tend to drink more Caribou, but I have tried Starbucks. Starbucks pricing is a little bit cheaper for the size serving you get.:hangover:

It's usually the first place we stop when we reach St. Cloud on the way in.

10. Buy local!
C'mon ya know someone had to say it. :P I get my coffee from this crazy Turkish dude, his place has been in town forever, outlasted every other local coffee shop, still going strong despite a much larger Starbucks one block away.

The best part is that he sells a killer Turkish blend, it is like drinking sweet mud! I loves its I do! :headbang:

15. Well, for us, Caribout and Dunn Brothers ARE local
:-)

However, I buy my beans from a company called Peace Coffee, which offers fair trade certified, organic, and shade-grown beans to co-ops and upscale supermarkets--and, best of all (I'm into alternatives to the car), it is delivered to the stores on bicycles.

Good on you. I can't speak to my guys certification (I suspect his coffee isn't) but it is damn tasty, and I don't have to buy my jo at some corporate behemoth.

My favorite part of one of the Austin Powers movies is that Doctor Evil invests in Starbucks. Funniest part of the movie IMO.

At least, there wasn't last summer. None in Moorhead either.

I asked when we stopped for gas.

Moxie Java, interestingly, is an Idaho company. There IS a Moxie Java in Moorhead, I noticed. The last place I want to get coffee when I'm in MINNESOTA is frickinfrackin Moxie Java.

It's in a strip mall on 25th Street. I'm pretty sure there's another location in the F-M area too.

21. We just got a Starbucks! We just got a Starbucks!
That is saying something for where I live! It's like finally jumping into the modern world, or something. :bounce:

Do I sound too happy? Too bad! I love Starbucks. Of course now that there is one within close proximity to me, I will have to be very careful with money. Yes, it is good, but wow, is it expensive.

I have never seen or heard of Caribou, so I cannot compare. I visit my sister who lives in Chicago, and she has never mentioned Caribou. She has a major Starbucks habit, though. The people who work in the one close to her start making hers as she walks in the door, LOL!

22. Starbucks coffee sucks. It tastes like turpentine or something.
I drink a lot of coffee, and have had good coffee from all over the world, and Starbucks coffee is just about the most bitter crud I've ever tasted. No wonder people put all that sugar and cream and whipped cream in and on their coffee--to try to disguise the taste of it.

Caribou is definitely preferable to Starbucks.

But it was just that good--I had to tell someone right that minute!

their espresso bean is unsurpassed. I was a starbucks junkie (red-eye or dopio machiatto) for YEARS. Now I make my own. Comparing the two though, caribou can't hold a candle to bux, and I have compared in the same day on many occasions.
