Describe your favorite sandwich.
Mine is a cheese steak hoagie - with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mayo. :9

No onions, though. I don't like onions.

and Miracle Whip (mayonnaise doesn't work on this sandwich) in white bread toast, while it's still warm.

It's the only time I allow white bread and Miracle Whip.

And it has to be served with some kind of crunchy, flavored chip - like BBQ Fritos, or Ranch Doritos.

Also about the only time that chips are allowed in my life.

...but it's on a hard, tough "multi-grain" roll, so you need to get it on sliced wheat.

• Smoked Turkey Breast
• Black Forest Ham
• Smoked Fontina Cheese
• Green Leaf Lettuce
• Tomatoes and Spicy Mustard Dressing
• Served on Multi-Grain Bread

Wash it down with an ice-cold Calistoga or Crystal Geyser.

46. We start with sourdough bread, buttered on the outside
You place one slice butter-side down in a preheated frying pan.

Then you spread it with prepared tuna salad -- drained water-packed tuna mixed with mayonnaise and pickle relish. No onions.

Place vine-ripened, de-seeded thin tomato slices on top of that.

As the tuna is heating through, butter your next slice of sourdough bread, but before putting it on, put on a nice thick slice of swiss cheese.

Flip, and continue cooking until the cheese melts.

Voila. Catzies's tuna melt. :9

Start out with some focaccia (or I bet it would be even better on a ciabatta roll). Then add some grilled red onions, zucchini, mushrooms, roasted red pepper, and olive tapenade. Add some fontina cheese and press in a panini grill. Delicious. :9 I think I will make one this weekend.

Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 04:55 PM by IMModerate
That's the main reason for the sandwich. Sour, real pickles that you get from the refrigerated section, and then you leave them at room temperature for a couple of days until they are "well done." Mmmm.

Then have them with a tuna, ham and cheese (horseradish cheddar is good) or garlic bologna, f'rinstance.

59. The top 5:
5) A little cafe in Delafield (WI) called "Jessica's" used to be really good. They had a BLT on sourdough that had a hint of citrus and dill in the mayo, and featured prominently sauteed sea scallops. They have since decided to save money, and there's like 3 scallops on the whole damn sandwich, where there used to be 7 or 8.

4) Mike & Rosy's deli (Springfield, OH) -- I like everything there. But my very favorite is hard salami on light rye with provalone, mozzarella, and brown mustard. It's an artery-clogger, sure; but it's steamed to perfection, and it makes me happy.

3) Back before they changed ownership, the Century Club in Dayton (OH) had the best fucking burger EVER.

2) Pizza Pit's turkey, bacon, and cheddar sandwich (various WI college towns) -- An Italian mini-loaf split down the middle, toasted, and slathered with garlic butter. Toss on about 1/3 pound each smoked turkey, shredded cheddar, and bacon. Bake wrapped in foil. Yum.

But, despite the glories noted here, the finest sandwich of all time is the perennial Cleveland favorite, the Polish Boy. And the finest Poli Boy comes from....

1) Whitmore's BBQ, Cleveland, OH. A fried kielbasa on a bun, topped with cole slaw, fries, and barbecue sauce. LOTS of barbecue sauce. The best sauce in town. I could kill for a Poli Boy right now. Please, let me kill for a Poli Boy.
