1. Wow, does that bring back memories

We had a juke box in the lunch room and I heard the Beatles 'til they came out of my ear drums.....

Since I was a musician, I was fond of Red Roses for a Blue Lady by Bert Kempfert....yeah, I was a nerd......

10. I Just Noticed...

...there were TWO versions of that song on this survey - the instrumental by bert Kempfert, and a vocal version by Vic Dana.

2. I was in 7th grade

Those songs bring back some good memories. I loved Herman's Hermits.

it's amazing how many songs on this survey are still being played regularly on the oldies stations here in Southern Colorado.

5. It was a great time for music wasn't it?

Motown, all those British bands, etc. Neighborhood kids forming garage bands. A great time to be a teenager :sigh: .

6. Those Were The Days

The one thing that strikes me about these old WABC surveys is the variety of musin that was being played on Top 40 Radio back then. In any given week, there would be Motown groups, British and American rockers, country/western acts, and even mainstream performers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, or Tony Bennett.

My favorites were Downtown, This Diamond Ring and King of the Road.

She is alive and well and hosts a karaoke night at some bar in Detroit once a week, last I heard. I'm going to have to follow up on that factoid because I'd REALLY like to shake Martha's hand.

9. I'm Sure It Was Climbing The Charts 40 Years Ago Today

Others on that survey (like #49 - Double-0-Seven by The Detergents)went nowhere.

They DID have a parady hit in 1964 with "Leader of the Laundramat" - hence their name.
