Who penned the "third base" quote...?
It goes something like "...try to understand that being born on Third base isn't the same as hitting a triple..."

I'd love to see the exact phrase, and have permission to use it on my sig...

2. I remember her saying it
but did she come up with it?

I've heard it used by other people.

Anyway, I love that woman! She's the best.

6. I believe Molly Ivins may have come up with that phrase
I don't have sources, but I think I read it in her book "Shrub: The Short But Happy Political Life Of Geroge W. Bush".
Call me if I'm wrong, though! :hi:

4. The way I remember it
is it was about George the First, "born on third base but thinks he got there by hitting a triple'. My problem? Can't tell you who said it! :)

5. Poppy may have been born on third base, but DimSon STOLE third base
if you receive my drift...

In fact Bush* stole the entire ballpark -- the one in Arlington, Tex., that is; he basically mugged the taxpayers for the $$$ to build it (and then proceeded to trade Sammy Sosa!)

8. Molly herself credits Ann Richards with the line
regarding Poppy Bush: "he was born on third base and thought he hit a triple."

She's also the author of the line, "born with a silver foot in his mouth," for which, according to Molly, Shrub hates her. Poppy, on the other hand, has a bit of class and a sense of humor - he gifted Ann with a silver pin of a foot, which she wears proudly.
