1. I'd bet in Germany right now the populace has a greater range of views
discussed in the popular media than in the US, and that journalists who dissent from popular positions aren't as much in fear of becoming unemployed.

The range of credible political alternatives that are presented and the richness of facts about the world at large are more important that whether some nazis get their soapbox.

2. That's true, but
this is not the law's fault. The blame lies elsewhere.

3. Well, there are the multiple Sedition Acts and similar legislation
that prevent(ed) you from expressing your views, so the same thing does happen here too.

4. I prefer it when people tell me up front the are Nazis.
That way I know which of the little pricks to keep my eye on.

5. The difference isn't as clearly cut
The German constitution has an "exceptions" clause (which isn't quite as simple as the poll indicates) , but the absence of one doesn't make the US Bill of Rights exception free.

The basic exceptions in Germany are: protection of minors, dishonorable statements, sedition and incitement. The German supreme court has a tendency to always rule in favor of Free Speech, Holocaust denial being the notable exception (remember: Roman Law).
