Anyone else watching American Idol?
I'm really enjoying Bo Bice. Dude can sing.

Also the young lady from New York (forget her name atm...), she's theatrical but still my favorite.

(Yeah, yeah... flame away if you must.)

12. Do you ever wonder
why people find it necessary to be rude when posting on threads that talk about things they don't like?

Your opinion is fine, I don't care if you like the same things I do... but why must you be rude about it?

5. Bo rocked the house last night....
He makes everyone else on the show (except maybe Anwar who is just so sweet and nice and handsome with his soft voice, smile, and dreadlocks and shamelessly sang his own arrangement of Moon River) look like shit.

He's my new tv boyfriend.

6. I'm actually forgoing it this year.
Since I started watching "The Amazing Race" regularly, something else had to go. I'm trying to keep the number of TV shows I watch from creeping upwards too much so I jettisoned "American Idol".

10. I swore I wouldn't watch any more reality tv, but in the beginning
watching American Idol was like driving by a bad accident, you can't help but slow down and look. I think Carrie Underwood, the farm girl is great and I also like Scott Savol because he is not the traditional hot looking singer. I agree with you about Bo too, he's really good. He said he lost his job because they told him to pick between American Idol or work.

26. I'm sort of following - more the guys than the girls. Bo & Anwar
are my two favorites.

As for the girls, I haven't been following closely, but the Barbara-Streisand wannabe from Las Vegas HAS TO GO. Way too annoying for 16. I read she went to Catholic school - you would think the nuns would have beat some humility into her (literally or figuratively)

OK I'm not sure if I know who you're talking about, but if you're talking about the dark-haired 16 yo... I thought she was from NY and I love her. :)

Simon said last week people would either love her or find her terribly annoying. If she's the one you're talking about, then I guess he was right... again!

The only contestant from Vegas that I remember is the showgirl. I don't think she'll last long.

Exactly!

Clay's the most successful of all the idol contestants. I love this show because the exposure alone virtually guarantees that all the talented people will get at least something out of it.

I'm all about mediocre artists being able to escape the rat race if they can. :D

I have an unspoken boycot of reality TV, but she has been following so I have been too (unless I want to spend my few hours with her in a different room). I have been enjoying it, though. I don't remember ANY names, but I like the bigger guy who looks like a dumb thug but can sing his ass off, I like the clay-atkin guy (his singing, not his look), I like the other rocker who is not Constantine, and I like the chick with the dark hair who Simon says he "wishes he were her microphone." I do not like the girl who looks/sounds like Janis from Friends.

Oh, I also like the music teacher with Dreds. He is very talented.

37. I've been watching it this year
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 11:39 AM by mvd
I admit. And I've been impressed - especially with the guys. Last week I voted for Constantine and Nadia. I thought that having a rocker be Idol would be a nice change (also, he seemed to be more unique than Bo,) and Nadia's performance brought the house down. This week, I voted for Anthony and Jessica. Those two impressed so much vocally on their ballads that it was hard not to vote for them. Next week, I'm going to start sticking with one. For the last two weeks, I've been voting on best performance.

Other observations on the men: Bo Bice did take the place as my #1 rocker. If he has another great performance, he could very well be my fave. Anwar Robinson is good. I hope Joseph goes this week. He's been my least favorite male performer for 2 weeks now. Scott's vocal style annoyed me this time, but I think he deserves another chance.

I like Carrie, but her choice of that Janis song was the worst song choice yet. Because she has talent, it wasn't horrible, but all you went away thinking is that she's no Janis. I thought Janay had the worst performance of the night - it sounded like a failed audition for one of the new hip-hop/R&B groups. Aloha and Vonzell were just ok. I find Lindsey to be very attractive and she has the look of an idol - I liked her and Celina's performances more than the judges did. Nadia has lots of talent, but didn't show it on that song. Mikalah improved, but I still can't get that last song she did out of my mind. Mikalah has the personality to be big in something, even if not in American Idol. Amanda also improved - I think she was the most improved of the women, in fact.

39. Why the 'I admit'?
:(

I thought Carrie messed up with that song choice as well. She'll probably make it through for another chance, though. Janay I'm not sure about... I'm thinking she'll go. Lindsey was much improved last night... I was impressed.

Nadia disappoints me. She's a great vocalist and I expected great things, but her last two performances haven't really impressed me. I think it's because to me she's coming across as affected. And her comments last night about how the winners have their own look and style just made me less inclined to believe she's genuine. I'm completely in love with Mikalah. Her voice, her quirkyness, her personality... hehe I'll stop now. :)

Anwar is very good, but Bo blows me away. I loved his song choices, too... I'm hoping he manages to keep doing as well as he has so far.

on DU, watching American Idol can be unpopular. And I didn't expect to like it. But still, I never shy away from my tastes here. Thanks for creating the topic.

Nadia's still the favorite to be my pick again next week. Guess we'll have to disagree on her. I thought she showed a lot of stage presence last week. That's ok - the judges disagree enough, too. :-)
