Poll question: Which is better, the British or American music press?
I feel that the British music press is more on top of things. You see more mention of Oasis there.

1. The Brits seem to be able to say if something is good or bad
and not care what the industry thinks. And isn't that what they should be doing?

3. That is a good observation.
Year after year around gift-giving season, we see a new way of the industry making money off of The Beatles, such as the Beatles Anthology DVD set, or the Beatles Anthology book, Yellow Submarine ornaments, or Beatles Anthology albums. The British music press is not afraid to go against the industry and report that despite all this merchandising, The Beatles are still behind Oasis in popularity.

6. The British press is awful - from fawning sycophancy to scathing hatred
on the turn of a dime. The UK Music Press is obsessed with building up a band of dubious talent then destroying them. Bunch of wannabe-rock star control-freaks.

7. And yet, you either voted for them...
...or did not vote at all. There are still no votes for the American music press.

14. I guess that that's not the story of Oasis.
Oasis has undubious talent, and now you still see them grabbing the headlines.

9. Neither.
The British press' "pump-and-dump" treatment of new artists is arguably as damaging as the US press' total neglect of them.

And while the US press' can't get over our dinosauric icons, the British press brings LOADS of undeserved attention to unworthy novelties. (Daisy Chainsaw? Kenickie? I could go on for days...) Both institutions are failing the rock form, which one can easily find is quite healthy so long as one does a little digging and ignores the press.

12. I've done that with Air Supply.
You hear almost no mention of Air Supply anymore, yet my ears can discern their remarkable talent.

11. I saw Kenickie three times, you crunt.
I have no idea why. I met Lauren though. Perhaps I was stalking her, or something.
