Dammit, fatass, get up those stairs!

One of the reasons I moved to where I moved to, is because it has a sweet roof-deck. The roof-deck is accessible via one of those fold-up attick ladder hatches.

I couldn't get my lazy cats to climb the ladder as it was, so I spent all day yesterday doing the following:

1) adding 7" to the bottom of the ladder and adjusting the hinges, so when it's open, it's on more of a gentle slope.

2) adding an extra 3" of depth to each step, so they have a larger area on which to stand as they climb/decend

3) putting that sandpapery safety tape to the surface of the steps.


So, the younger, slimmer cat is up and down the thing all day, and loves it.

But the older, fatter one, is too chicken. I've even placed her on one of the steps, and she just sits there like a big furry watermelon, crying to get down.

So I give up.

Or possibly give them an 'incentive' to do so themselves.

Then let her figure it out. I had to do it with my youngest, and he didn't have a cool rooftop to hang out in for incentive.
