I know this is a fashion article, but I can't help feeling a statement was being made by the blue. (Sorry if this has been covered already - did a search and couldn't find anything on it.)

Blue seemed to be the predominant colour at the most fashionably extravagant event of the year – the 77 th Annual Academy Awards.

Strapless, backless or deep-V necklines, blue went well with all shades of skin on display at the event.

Best Actress winner Hilary Swank looked anything but a baby in her daring high-cut, dark blue, long sleeve backless gown by Guy Laroche.

(First few pages show women's attire, then they show the men's. Apparently some of the men's tuxes were in (navy) blue as well...e.g. Johnny Depp.)
