Austin TX area DUers - who wants to meetup before the protest on 3/19
I'm hoping to meetup with some of you Austin TX folks so we can have a big hearty breakfast on Saturday morning and then we can head out and do some protesting (I'm in town for the SXSW festival).

Who's hanging with me?

1. I'm going to be there.
I'll be coming in to Austin Friday night. But I have to help my friends with a yard sale Saturday morning.

As soon as I'm done with that, I'd love to meet up.

I need to PM GOPisEvil about something anyway, thanks for the reminder.

Oh my GOD I'm going to get to meet LynneSin.

2. YEP, and you can hang out with us too for the protest
The event starts around noon on Saturday but I figured we could all me for breakfast that morning.

I'm actually staying with GOPisEvil for the festival. Ramsey is also going to be in Austin for the festival; however, she has to leave Saturday morning to head home

3. Lynn,
What kind of signs are you going to carry?

I made a whole bunch for last year's march in Crawford. My favorite said "How many more have to die?"

I remember all of saying "Surely we won't be protesting this war a year from now, surely not...."

Anyway. I want to make a big DU sign. White letters on black sign material.

For my other sign, I'm just thinking "BUSH LIES PEOPLE DIE"

I also think the idea of putting the total number of casualties on a sign is a good one. Makes it very concrete.

Just talking out loud, don't mind me...if you are going to be without a sign or two, I always make plenty.

4. I'm in favor of breakfast
But I'm a harder sell on the protest. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't want to end the war. But I've been going to these little affairs since we were protesting the war in El Salvador and I know what to expect.

A few hundred of the usual people and a few dogs will gather at one of the usual places to listen to the usual speakers make the usual speeches. There will be a blessing from a non-traditional faith. Someone will equate this cause with the struggles of the oppressed and peoples of color at home. A few dozen copies of The Socialist Worker will be passed out. A tie-dyed character with an acoustic guitar will sing some of the usual songs. People will admire one another's antiwar buttons.

And the war will go on.

5. Eh, you big cynic.
LOL, just kidding. When I read your post, I had to giggle. You've lived in Austin a long time, haven't you? (And I giggled at the description, because, hey I've been to that same protest! LOL!)

For those of us starved for any kind of political action, the protest will be great! But hopefully I'll see you and some other DUers who don't want to do the protest later?

6. If you're starved for political action...
I'm blockwalking for the city council elections. You're more than welcome to join in. And who knows, we might actually have a little impact on things.

10. Whenever
We're just distributing leaflets at this point. So it's pretty much whenever you have the time and the urge.
