Thinking that says "Liberals/Democrats must be X" pisses me off
I don't mind people challenging others about their beliefs and poltical stands and etc., but come on already - do we really need to keep saying things "so-called liberal" or "you're not a real democrat" or "you're not a real liberal" just because someone fails one particular litmus test?

Can we grow up, and look a person in their totality?

I figure, if someone political/social leanings tend to more than 50% of typically liberal/democrat belief, that's good enough to consider them liberal/democrat.

Just becuase someone might own a gun, or hunt, or eat meat, or not agree with gay marriage, or be anti-communist, or be anti-PETA, or a bit of a racist, or anti-sex-outside-of-marriage, or anti-social-security, or think the Pope is really cool, or is in favor of orgies, or anti-abortion, or pro-death penalty, or served in the military, or in favor of welfare reform, or blah blah blah blah, let's go on and on, doesn't mean they're not a liberal/democrat.

Should we challenge people on their beliefs? Absolutely.

But I'm getting tired of bullshit lines like "And you call yourself a Democrat?" or "You're not a real liberal" blah blah blah.

The only mature way to make a judgment is to look at the totality of a person's beliefs and leanings. 'taint a single one of us that fits every criterion to be a "liberal" or "democrat" - mostly because there isn't perfect agreement on what those criteria are, and also because we're all different people.

Those who love to play the "If you aren't with me 100% you are a fake" card, all I can say is - good luck in your political party of one.

Just...........you know, grow up.

2. I demand 100% adherance to an ill defined standard.
If I don't get it, I'll just cry.

3. Absolutely!
Because I can't tolerate difference, I'll just redefine you not to be "real", then I don't have to listen to you or dialogue with you any more. If you're not in my camp, you are the enemy; and enemies are by their very nature unreasonable and unwilling to see the truth.

:-)

LOL at your post! I love the crybabies.

4. It's not exactly helpful.
What's interesting is that some manage to see that when it happens on the conservative side of the fence, that it's harmful to the republican party. However, when it's done on this side, somehow the damaging aspect of that behavior is forgotten.

5. On a Certain Level, I Agree

However, if someone is a racial bigot or hates gays, I think it's fair to assume they aren't a "real" liberal and if that makes them run away and hide and cry in a corner, then fuck em. We don't need them.

There are issues that are important and there are issues that are not so much. I don't care if a liberal owns a gun or eats red meat or drives an SUV. I'd prefer that they dislike Bush and hopefully they oppose the war in Iraq. But it's the Republican-style hate that I don't think should be tolerated in the Democratic party.

6. Something else that drives me to heights of fury
If someone writes, "There are giant pink cows on my lawn, and my flying dog is trying to kill them with his photon bazooka" (or something equally ludicrous), we are not permited to say "That's f*cking NUTS, dude!", without being attacked by the 'always PC' folks.

7. "Having giant pink cows on my lawn, with my
flying dog trying to kill them with his photon bazooka" means I'm nuts?

I thought that happened to everyone.

9. LOL
I noticed that with you. I always enjoy reading your posts that question these presumptions. nobody from our side can die without it being part of some conspiracy of murder it seems, even if there is ZERO proof. :hi:

10. Hehehe
If life has taught me nothing else, it's taught me to be a healthy skeptic, even if it's of something a fellow progressive says. My basic standard is the 'smell test'.

11. I'm Ok With It, Rabrrrrrr
Because i know that if anyone doesn't agree with me 100%(!) on EVERY issue, they are a Freeper, or at least a Fascist.

I don't have to think that way. Just reflexive decision making. It's far more convenient that way.

13. I Do Seek Out Efficiency
I even expect my dog to pottie quickly because it's a more efficient use of time.

Maybe that's why i do it! I think you've hit on the reason. It's not convenience! It's the efficiency!

Hey, i should have thought of that! Thanks! This explains EVERYTHING!
