Time to bitch: Who should have won an Oscar last night but didn't...
...I mean other than the obvious which was Martin Scorsese for "The Aviator". But I have to give Clint his due - "Million Dollar Baby" was a brilliant movie!!

1. Marty's not going to win for a biopic.
Hohum is what I have to say to that.

10. I think Scorsese's greatest work
is behind him. Still, he is a great director. I wonder if he is just not liked in Hollywood and if so, why? The whole Oscar thing is so political, really. People who win often don't win for their best work but they get an award because they are getting old and I guess Hollywood thinks it might be the last chance to honor them. Two I can think of are Paul Newman and Henry Fonda. Both made many great movies before they finally won. The movies they won for in my opinion was not their greatest work. And then of course there are great actors, directors, etc. who never win.

11. Oh, I absolutely agree with that.
But IMO, The Aviator was not even mediocre (in terms of his talent).

One of the things I like about the Academy is their ability to be "fair" overall...he is due one, certainly, and I think he will get one...just as many of the actors named in this thread.

4. Loved 'Hail Hail RnR' and 'Ray'
Was glad to see Jamie Foxx get an Oscar. The whole cast was great. There wasn't a scene in that film where you come out of the story and have time to think "hey, that actor is better than that other one." Nothing, not one performance in the film broke the illusion at which Foxx was the center. Awesome story telling.

13. Johnny will get one some day
I don't think the Alda role was quite meaty enough this time around.

8. Yes I thought that was great
I mean I understand why Eternal Sunshine wasn't up for best picture because Kaufman is in a realm of his own one way beyond most other movies. I think his movies or so great but it's probably hard for the Academy to compare such a movie to your standard biopics or drama or whatever. They are just way above everything that there is no comparison.

12. I didn't see any of the movies, sad I know :-(
I didn't see any of the movies but I kinda wish Don Cheadle had won best actor just because of the issues of Hotel Rwanda.

From what I've heard Jamie Foxx did an awesome job(I'm sure all the nominees did), and I'm sure he deserved it very, very much but I wish they would have given Hotel Rwanda something, just for the message..... but what should I expect? We ignored it when it was actually happening why should we give a damn about it now? x(

14. I dunno
hard to argue with last night's pics. I want Scorcese to win one as much as anybody, but it's not like he was robbed last night. I think Eastwood's a great director, too, and while I haven't seen it, nobody's saying Million Dollar Baby was undeserving.

Of course, Scorcese WAS robbed when he lost to Costner and Redford.

I was really thrilled Cate Blanchett won - she was truly robbed by losing to Gwyneth Paltrow a few years ago.

If I had to pick one, I'd say I wish Annette Bening had won over Hillary Swank. I love Bening, and Swank sorta bugs me.

15. "Baby" was a ringer moved by Warner Bros. at the last minute
It was supposed to open this year (2005). At the last possible minute--I think in mid-to-late November--Warner Brothers decided to move it up to the end of the year.

If it had stayed in this year's lineup, Scorsese and "The Aviator" most likely would've triumphed, Annette Bening would've won Best Actress, Julie Delpy might have snagged Hilary Swank's spot, Javier Bardem, Liam Neeson or Paul Giamatti might have snagged Clint Eastwood's spot, Peter Sarsgaard or Freddie Highmore might have snagged Morgan Freeman's spot, and "Kinsey" or "Eternal Sunshine would've been up for Best Picture in "Baby's" slot.

I'm not dissing "Baby"--it's a very good movie. But I can't help but have a few sour feelings towards it, since its move mucked things up for a lot of other good movies and performers.

16. Kevin Spacey and Beyond the Sea
Robbed, I tell you!
Beyond the Sea should have at a minimum been nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Kevin Spacey for Best Actor.
