One thing I was glad about with the Oscars last night:
That the unusually tedious Andrew Lloyd Webber nominated Best Song from "Phantom of the Opera" didn't win. It was completely forgettable...even by Lloyd Webber standards. The Academy tends to go with the dullest song imaginable with the Best Song category...Trey Parker and Matt Stone losing out to Phil Collins a few years ago is a perfect example of that.

5. That was somewhat crass and insensitive of me.
I didn't know I had such a sadistic streak. Eeek. :-(

3. I don't even get how Webber was nominated.
The category is Original Song. Since that whole film was an adaptation, using songs I assume were nicked from the stage show (totally unsurprising confession: I didn't see either), how does anything from that even qualify for a Best Original Song nomination? Was the nominated song written specifically for the film?

4. I believe the nominated song was a new one.
It was heard during the closing credits (?). Much like Kander & Ebb writing a new song for the movie Chicago so it could be nominated. It also ran during the closing credits.

6. That was a new song for the movie
And, not surprisingly, it blew.
